Traction Control...

Anyone else here able to share their experience with Traction Control?

On my commute there are a couple of intersections where the road has a slightly bumpy moderate hump.  Park Avenue in the 60s, for fellow NY'ers.  I can, with a fair amount of predictability, trigger the TC in those sections crossing Park.

When it triggers it tends to linger in a fairly annoying fashion.  It feels and sounds like a rev limiter when it happens.

I'll try to post a video shortly to illustrate.

What say thee?

Same feelings here, its quite annoyingly slow to let go. Wish it was multimode like the Kawi N1000 but we can't have everything I guess. I just turn it off if I'm out to play, and leave it on for more mundane rides.

I can make it kick in trying to spin on dirt and trying to wheelie.  I have no experience with other bikes with TC, but it seems to act about like I would expect it to.

I have had it kick on several times..

I had to drive up a very step gravel drive way and I noticed it was kicking in as I was going up, so I further tested it by fully opening the throttle, and it behaved well.. Gave me all sorts of throttle confidence that I otherwise would not have had in that situation. I estimated this particular gravel driveway at about a 12-14% ridiculously steep incline for about 100 meters. It was very interesting how the bike just putted along.. Clearly the ignition was limited, but I suspect fueling was also limited because again, I drove up puttering with a full open throttle.

A few days ago I slapped a set of Angel GTs on the bike, and as I left my 20mph community by turning 90 degree right onto the 50mph main road, I goosed the throttle a good bit (which I often do at this point.. who doesn't love the acceleration, right?).. Anyways, the rear broke loose quite a bit, and while the TC sensor light turned on, I cannot be sure whether it was TC or my immediate correction that saved my butt from spilling over. The spin out in that case definitely put me on the edge at which had I gone for another fraction of a second, there is no question I would have dumped the bike.. It was as if the road was wet after a long dry spell. Anyways, again, TC kicked in, and it is possible although I can't be certain, that it may have saved me from spilling.

So my review is that it seems good on certain one-off cases (steep gravel), but seemingly slow to react in others..

I figure that if it kicks in, I screwed up somewhere.  I've only ever had it kick in while deliberately provoking it to get familiar with the feel under operation.

I don't mind having TC as an added measure, but like ABS, I have no intention of becoming dependent on it.

With the ABS that may not be a bad impression but I'm finding the TC kicking in where I never felt any lack of confidence in my traction.

If I'm on a ratty section of road and I'd rather throttle out of a situation than brake, the TC could turn out to be a liability.

I'm even inclined to reach out to Honda about it.  Yeah, I know I could just turn it off.  Yet another thing to add to my pre-flight check...

It could be that a combination of bump frequency and crap pavement is spoofing the system.  But hey, we all know every road in Manhattan is billiard-table smooth right? Right?? OK, not.

Having put down nearly 4000 miles on every imaginable variety of road (including a 6 mile stretch of rocky gravel and dirt) both dry and wet, I have yet to have it kick on.  I forced it on once in gravel, just to get a feel for what it would do.  Nothing unexpected, and it immediately went back to normal.

We got some snow on the highest peaks around here last night, maybe I will look for some after work this evening... :)

We also got a bit of snow on our peaks last night (as well as a massive amount of hail in town)...even though I try to ride all year when the weather permits it, I'm still looking forward to a good snowy winter :)

I thought it felt a bit abrupt and gross compared to the TC on my Super Tenere.  It felt just as tacked on as the switch to turn it off...    (Apparently I need a Curmudgeon Control Button)

I may have had it come on once but never noticed the indicator during that instance (wasnt looking at the cluster, too busy watching the road at the time), so im not sure. Maybe because I dont intentionally try to activate it. If it happens Ill try to remember to post about it. Same with the ABS, Im glad both are there if I need them, but havent tried to set either off yet.

I feel my ABS all the time.  But I also ride quite hard and brake/downshift pretty aggressively sometimes.

You know that's not a good thing, right? :)
