Tires, What Are You Going To Install This Year?

Dunlop Q3. Gonna need a new one soon in the back. Good for about 4000 miles and priced right. Great tires!

Here's what 4000 miles on a PR4 looks like. Turn in and grip are fine, but that feathering looks weird.

Front  looks  good ?

^^^  That's what my PR3's did.  I've been curious if the 4's would.  I've never had the 2's do it, partly why I want to stick with them.

PR2 rear, PR4 front -- which is what I have now. Might go back to the PP2 front, depending on what trips I'm taking.

PR2s are still the best.

Ran nothing but Metzler Z6 and Z8 on the old '94. The '96 came with a Battlax front and rear. The Battlax had some of the worst cupping I'd ever seen on a MC tire. The owner had a set of new PR3's that he hadn't put on, which I liked initially, but the front cupping ended up getting pretty bad on those too. I then switched back to the Metzler Z8's front and rear, and got back the life I liked, and the confidence inspiring wet weather grip I was used to. I ended up purchasing a pair of new rims for my bike, and will go back to Z8's after I wear down the Pilot power front and PR4 rears that came on them.

Historically I've used PR2 s with good results (~ six sets). Last fall I bought a set of Angel GTs. I ran them a week in Arkansas and they felt really good. Less that 1,000 mi so longevity is yet to be determined. So far no difference between the PR2 and the Angels that I can see/feel.

While I do not keep records of longevity I've been able to get between 8,000 and 10,000 mi. They usually flat spot in the center; I've never worn the sides off any tire. Not enough twisties in my travels obviously. :mellow2:

I originally ordered a set when they first came out for my VF1000R because they offer a 16" front, and the pre release reviews were enthusiastic. The fronts are dual compound and the rears triple compound. They completely changed the bike. I rode across country from Maine to Calf. and back in 2012 taking a day in Western NC to ride all of the usual suspects and from then on was sold.

I'm on my 3rd rear and second front on my 97 VFR and could not be happier.

Good looking tire, though only available in 190 & 200/55/17 in US, 180/55/17 on a few european websites.

I went with a PP3 front and PR4 rear this go round. My last combo was a PP3/PR2 and I was able to get 13,601 miles out of both! This was predominantly commuter miles but I did get in two Sierra Mountain runs with them. The rear actually has a lot of tread left, albeit squared off in the center, but I thought I'd give the PR4 a try but I like the PP3 enough to stick with it.

Dont think theres much difference between the pr3 and pr4 is there?

I think so and why the PR3 had such a short manufacture Run. IMO the PR2 was a much better tire then the Pr3 in most respects and the PR4 is their attempt to correct that.

The Angle GT is a great tire, BUT I got very poor life out of my set. Like 2000 miles, can't afford that for how i ride.

My current set is a PP3 front & PR2 rear with excellent results, avg 3300-3500 a set. But i'm Old and Slow.  :schla15:

Q3's were installed a few days prior to me buying the bike. I am still scrubbing them in but will check back after I put a few hundred miles on them this weekend. So far, I very much like them. 

Buy the Q3s.  Stick like sport tires, wear like touring tires, easy to mount, least money.  $50 rebate for the month of March for each set (max 2 sets).  All the cool guys are doing it....

I have installed a set of Pirelli Diablo's...sounds like I am the only one  :unsure:

Metzeler sportec M7rr seem to do it outstanding in the reviews in Europe, butt the Q3's are getting good feedback here.

They went to undergrad to become Q2s, and finished professional school to become Q3s.  Glad they didn't peak in high school, unless the originals are better.  Are they?
