My girlfriend and I have been together for close to three years now. We have both been married and divorced. We both have our own daughters that are the same age, (they are actually how we met). Neither one of us have been in a rush to get remarried or pushed in that direction but that subject has come up on a few occasions.
She had never ridden on a bike before meeting me and had never even had the desire to want to ride until I took her for her first ride a few years ago. Unfortunately, I do not get to have her as my passenger as often as I would like but we slide those rides in when ever we can.
We were just having a discussion about "things". How some people feel that possessions are very important. That then leads to how a lot of women want their man to spend a fortune on an engagement ring even if they can not afford it. Its like the dollar value of the ring is more important than their man wanting that woman to be his wife.
I then asked her a simple question....
If I had only a certain amount of cash on hand and that amount was only enough to purchase one of two possible items, which one would you rather me spend the cash on?
The first item was an engagement ring.
The second item was a new set of good quality tires for the VFR before our next trip to the mountains.
It only took her about two seconds to decide she would rather me spend the cash on new tires for the bike!
After I heard her answer, I thought that I have a really cool woman in my life!
I think she saw you coming. So to speak. But congrats anyways on the new situation and the answer to the test question. Now go get those tires and go riding!!!!!! Unless you didn't need them at all? Then get her the ring.

That engagement ring bs was started by Debeers in the 20's/30's to sell Diamonds. It's a racket. As soon as you buy it it drops 50% of value the minute you leave the store. It's also a theft magnet for thugs and perps. It's just a trinket. I'll buy one when I get a gift for engagement that is similarly priced. So if I have to buy one I expect a bought and paid for new motorcycle in my garage. Women and their double standards :laughing6-hehe:
You must me a really cheap person if you think a ring is the same price as a set of tires. I expected you to give her a choice between the rings and a good condition fifth or sixth gen. ($2500 - $6500.) Or perhaps a new 2014 VFR800 if a woman is high maintenance. :tongue:

+1! were you planning on buying a ring at walmart?? seems to me you should get both.
Guess the dollar value thing was not really a fair thing to mention. I know a ring would cost way more than tires would! She is not one to really care about having big jewelry or lots of clothes. She enjoys riding with me so much that she would prefer to save the money to put towards tires and maybe the next long weekend trip or save for a house, things like that is what she would rather spend money on. I have no complaints about my woman and I am very lucky to have met her. I just think it is rare to hear a woman say something like she would rather me put tires on the bike so we could ride together over having a ring on her finger. I do believe that sometime in the near future, she will get a ring from me.
Now if you truly love her go get her gloves, riding pants and boots.

She has all her own gear now. First thing I did years ago was get her a helmet, gloves and jacket of her own. We both have some kevlar jeans now too and I am always on the lookout for gear on sale for both of us. She loves it when I bring her home some new gear.

Wifey and I bought ours in the jewelry district downtown, years ago. Got my $1200 ring for $500, yeah right.
