Well I can't say it is hugely cheaper but Partzilla has the pump for $127.15. Here's a link to the site if you're interested.

Looks like when you order the whole part (#6 on the diagram) it comes with the shaft o-ring and the water pump cover o-ring as well.

If the water pumps are leaking coolant from the weep hole...can this be fixed with a new o-ring (#25) or does the water pump itself need to be replaced?

Hey Jeff,

I know with automotive water pumps when the weep hole leaks it's an indication that the internal "shaft" seal is leaking. If the weep hole is forward from the inner o-ring then I would suspect you may need to replace water pump. Not a very difficult job.

That's also my understanding. I've done it on my '99 for the same issue. Be aware that the pump shaft goes through the oil sump, so be sure to drain the oil first.

I was thinking the same on automotive pumps. I've read that replacing seal #25 would fix it and I've also read that replacing the pump is the fix. So I had to post a question about it.

Referring to Rovari's diagram, probably a good idea to replace the oil seal O-ring on the shaft.

Also don't be surprised when the outside o-ring shows up with a kink in it...I thought my O-ring got bent in shipping...see the pic...it's normal

Oh, it's been a while. Is the outer cover not included with a new pump? Do you order the pump and O-ring and re-use the cover?

What was the price for the water pump?

I'll tell you this much, on the ST1300 side of things they tend to let the pump weep. I'm in that situation as well. Not a ton of coolant loss, but I can smell it every time I ride. It's a much more difficult pump replacement, however. Actually available as parts, so not all at once. But still they tend to let it go for a while.

Thanks for the link zoomzoom. That is quite a bit cheaper than what my local dealer's price is.

My local Honda dealer matched their price. 😁
$138.91 out the door. Still too much for a friggen little water pump but I saved $46.84. Should have it by the end of the week. Thank you!!

Really good to hear that the local dealer matched the price.  I wish my local dealer would have done that when the clutch slave cylinder went last year.  Dealer in Canada wanted nearly $300 for the slave cylinder and gasket and Partzilla had the part for $69.35 US.  The OEM slave cylinder on Partzilla was almost half the cost of the rebuild kit from a local supplier.  Sometimes I am forced to wonder where Canadian dealers get their parts prices from.

Hope the install goes well and your problem is solved.  :)

If I can piggyback on this thread. I have a 2000 VFR800 and I've noticed an intermittent leak from the vicinity of the coolant pump. There is some coolant residue at the bottom of the pump housing towards the forward end of the pump. I've warmed the bike up in the driveway and even reved it up and have not been able to find the source of the leak. I have seen coolant pooling under the bike and the coolant was low last fall. I plan to use the bike for touring with my wife this season, so I want to get this sorted out before any long trips. Any ideas? Should I just replace the coolant pump and be done with it?

If you can't find a leaky hose(loose clamp maybe) most likely coming from the weep hole in the pump.

Well, I guess that means a new coolant pump. The problem is that it's like Heisenberg's Leak, observing it makes it stop leaking so I can't track it down.

If you replace the pump, you can be assured that the leak will actually emanate from the collections of hoses inside the V under the throttle bodies!

Seriously though, there are a few connection points in there that are hard to see. Could be barely weeping and slowly finding their way to the ground.

Weep hole on the bottom of the pump should stay moist if it's the source. Probably have to take off the left fairing and stick your head under it to get a look.
