Vinyl Wrapping

Planning to wrap my fairings and tank with vinyl. Has anyone else done it? If so, please share some pics, pros and cons, and any other experiences with it.

Haven't done it, but in the interest of getting your thread rolling, I'd ask about the wear on the sides of the tank where your knees hit.  My guess is it'd hold up alright, but something thicker there might be helpful.

I plastidipped my R1 last summer, and vinyl wrapped the tank because plastidip does not handle friction well...  

Vinyl wrapping is a lot of work, I seem to recall it took several hours to get the tank done (mostly because of how complex the shape was), but it looks really nice once it's finished, and it held up to friction much better than plastidip does.  I used a hair dryer to stretch the vinyl wrap so it clung better to the tank, some people don't use heat at all.  The trick is making sure you have no air caught between the piece and the wrap.

In the end, I bought a fairing kit online :P

I tried to wrap two small side panels with vinyl but gave up because of the curve on the panels I had a carbon pattern that became distorted with the heat and stretching. Ended up  going with hydrographic dipping on the parts. Cheap  ($90 for both) and they put 2 coats of automotive clear which is holding up well. Might be an option.

Did my 1200 with the kit from TheTankslapper.biz. It was work, but came out perfect. Hard to tell it's even there. The tank was easy, the headlight and nose were a chore. I didn't use heat, just lots of patience, clean hands, solution and their tools. Wasn't vinyl, but a polyurethane film from Xpel. Plan on all day.

Well, that's the problem...the install is so nice it really is hard to see the film. That, and I'm a terrible photographer. However, I noticed you can just see the edges when the bike is dusty. I'll try to get some photos when I get a bit of dust built up. Anything in particular you are interested in seeing?

I'm thinking of just adding some decals to make her a bit flashier looking, easy to remove at any time.not sure what decals to get though.

Have done this on every bike for over a decade but the clear vinyl, see through.  Take your time and do your research first or take it to a pro.

So I'm going the plasti dip route with a plasti dip glossifier. I'll let y'all know how it turns out.
