Parts Compatibility

Is the 8th Gen engine basically the same as the 6th gen?

Reason I'm asking is I'm curious if they upgraded parts like the stator and rr and if those parts can be put on a 6th gen.

Yes the engine is basically the same.

I have no idea if the charging system has been changed.

R\R  is  different  for  sure ,  the  last thing  I read    about it  was  a computer  control  unit.

The stator has a different part number and the cover is visually different, tho that doesn't mean they won't fit.

How about the crank and crankcase? If those are the same, then it should all bolt up? Flywheel?

If the R/R is in a different spot, and the power output wires are a different length, that would make it a new part# for sure. Maybe even a new R/R with a different plug.

Why doesn't someone look up the parts fiches and compare part numbers.

Part numbers generally only tell you if the bikes use the exact same parts; whether different parts nevertheless fit is a question that can only be answered by educated guessing, trial and error.  IOW, somebody's got to step up and order some parts!

(Speaking of which, whatever happened to the guy who was trying to fit an 8th-gen wheel and axle to an earlier model?  I think he worked at a dealership, so could easily get the parts.)
