What would be the downfalls of making my own exhaust. I would like to lighten up my 95 and current options are close to nill.

If you have the skills, why not go for it? There are sources for pre-bent stainless steel tubing, which just leaves the designing, cutting and welding. If I were doing this (not that I have the skills) I would probably use a straight centre exit and a separate link pipe, which would mean the system could be used for left side, right side, dual, whatever.
