So I have a 97VFR, it was wrecked and the front fairing/headlight is trashed.
I'm thinking of going for a naked look with the bike, and certainly on a budget.
I'd like to keep the original gauge cluster because it still works well and looks pretty good. I'm trying to think of a good way to create some sort of cover for the circuits that are exposed at the back. The plastic is pretty brittle so theres not much option for drilling.
Anyone here have any ideas? I've thought about using rubber matting or several layers of black trash bags, but beyond that I can't think of anything.
If you are looking for fairing parts I may be able to help you, here is a link to some pictures back in 2014, I have added more parts but haven't needed to take pictures, I have now dealt with my problem....and have transferred it to 5th Gen parts :wink: . The only idea I would have for blocking that area would be maybe a plastic shovel... I have seen people use a shovel for a deflector above the headlight on naked bikes and you would never realize it was a shovel.
My brother in law is doing a streetfighter project on a 97 FV and has all the fairing pieces up for sale, including the whole front end with screen, mirrors, instruments, indicators, shrouds etc.
The fairing was in excellent condition when we removed it, only one broken tab on the middle RHS fairing piece. The front fairing pieces were perfect (well, no damage, and paintwork pretty good for 18 years!).

Not sure how much postage would be (we are in Australia), but I think you'd be looking at approx. US$500 incl postage as a guess (for the complete front end plastics, i.e. headlight, screen, indicators, upper fairing pieces, shrouds, etc).
If you're not yet committed to the streetfighter option and you're interested in the plastics then let me know and I can send more detailed photos etc.
Thanks for the replies guys! I love this community and the willingness to help out. I think I'll look into the shovel option. I got the bike for incredibly cheap and I'm not looking to put a ton of money into it and I think I can make something work well with that idea.
