Black Or White?

 I've been on a fun mission here with the viffer where I finally got my hands on a 8 spoke,  then pondered for a while what color, Tired a few bronze tones, but none really felt quiet right,  so went with my gut from the past that the white is pretty nice, thing is with this white I mixed it up a bit,  it has a silver tone,  then he dude doing the work thought it would really pop with a clear. That clear clear ened up making it pop then also added  a very slight pearl hue in the right light.  Now the sun came out where I was able to take it outside in the sun to get a good look,  then noticed I kinda like the Black front with the white rear.   Crazy..

Looks Nice! I like the high mount can!  I can't wait to get my new white fairings on my 5th, I will keep the wheels black :wink:

The white really highlights the 8 spoke.  If working on the bike is a labor of love, keeping wheels clean is no big deal.  I let the wheels get dirty on my Camry! 

I have to admit weakness for the white.  With all the maintenance and care that means, white. imho.

It Definitely is a labor of love,  so much so keeping it clean ain't an issue here. Even the GMC truck wheels get cleaned   :cool:  

Why on earth buy an 8-spoke rear and then paint it black? That makes it near invisible from more than 10 feet so you might was well keep the 5-spoke.

When the main bike color isn't black or white, my preference is silver, trying to match the frame color as closely as possible.

It gives you the visibility of white, ties into the frame, forks and the exhaust, and doesn't show dirt as badly as white.

I was looking for just that right shade of a blend between white and silver trying without getting the shine of the frame, while pulling the shade of silver that's in the rest of the bike, then add a pop.  Think I'm going to also add the same white that's on the wheel into the VFR decal. Look up Prismatics color chart and find cosmic white,  you see maybe there what I'm talking about as the photos doesn't show what it is really like.

See if you can match the color that surrounds the wing on the tank or the color of the wing.

On 8 spokes, I have a personal weakness for the gold "Summer Blond Metallic" on the 1991 model.  It looks fabulous in sunlight.

I had every intention to do just that gold, until I took a look at the wing emblem on the tank, Doh!  it's in a light silver,  on the 4th gen it was a gold.   That had me look at Bronzes,  I tell ya so many shades with all the samples none talked to me,  which brought me full circle back to a white of sorts,  but knowing just a plain white wouldn't cut it.   So like CornerCraver mentioned I looked for a light silver,  thing is with that silver on the wing it's a bit drab when enlarged to cover a larger area such as the wheel. in fact it's like what the down under folks had on the VFR wheels from the factory I believe. LOL I couldn't have that.  So I spiced it up a bit by adding white, then threw on a clear that made it pop.

Really diggin' the present setup. Draws your eye to the rear rim, then back to the front where you notice all the silver bits. Somehow as well, does not look in any way unfinished!

Let me start by saying, it's your bike so if you like the black front white rear combo...rock on man. That being said, I think that going black on the rear would do the opposite of what Cogswell said and minimize the cool factor of the 8 spoke. I think if it were me, I'd go white on both and then just slap a couple nice healthy coats of paste wax on them while they're off and clean. Makes keeping wheels clean much much easier.

Back when I used to detail cars, a guy who brought me his XKR Jag called me up almost frantic one day asking what I did to his wheels. I was worried thinking the finish had started to flake and he was blaming me or something but he went on to say that with the brake pads he used, his wheels got visibly dirty in just a couple days but it had been a month and they still looked good. All I did was apply a couple coats of meguiars paste wax, nothing fancy. 

Awe.. well after a bit of getting it done right, took the shop two tries to get it right,  I got the front wheel back and all put back together ready to be installed,  but wouldn't ya know it,  I sent off the forks to Jamie, so it's a week out.  But the good news,  the Penske shock showed up earlier than expected,  guess I better force myself to do that install :goofy:     But yes,  I went white- white,  but not just any white,  wish the photos showed how it looks. Best explanation I can come up with is to look at a white reflective sign on the road,  it's that kind of white with a pop.

Well well,  wouldn't ya know,  I finally got it all back together and it's looking pretty good,  not to mention the added extras make it oh so much more...
