Bar End Weight Screw?

Hoping someone can help. I lost a bar end weight last season and have since purchased an OEM replacement from EBAY. However, finding the screw is proving a challenge. It's a 1992 VFR (California model) and completely stock (I still have the long mudflap and wobbly rear turn signals!).

As far as I can tell, the OEM screw is a M6x32 . I've checked with a few dealers and they don't have the part any longer and can't order it. They also can't offer any substitutions. I've checked online and have only found nylon screws that fit the M6x32.

The '94s+ use a larger screw.

I've kept the bike pristine and completely original since new and I don't want to hack up anything or try to modify it now. Heck, it's getting to the point where I'm afraid to ride if for fear of something breaking that can't be replaced (looking at you plastic bodywork!)

Any pointers to where I might be able to find this screw? Or am I screwed? ;)

Over here in Anaheim there are a few hardware stores that have a good supply of nuts, bolts and other "hard to find" items. Maybe look into Industrial Hardware suppliers. You can also try online at McMaster-Carr to see if they have anything. It might cost you a bit for just one bolt/screw but you might buy a handful of other things you might need to offset the cost.

You might try various on-line vendors to see what happens.  Partzilla also shows that it's obsolete as does a few others, however Service Honda is still showing it.  You never know - there could be a few sitting in someone's inventory somewhere.

Call Midway Cycle Salvage in Madison, Alabama.  800-232-6686.  It's a large cycle salvage yard and the owner used to ride VFR's so they're very familiar with them.  Like all salvage yards, there's no telling what's in there.  Good luck.

Thanks switchblade and everyone else. Of all the places I didn't check, Amazon. Sheesh!

Order has now been placed. I usually do a lot of shopping online with Amazon, it didn't even occur to me to check for a Honda OEM part there.

Wow - I would never have thought to look on Amazon either!

I know about the 10 year after model retirement that Honda set some years ago for when they will stop supplying parts for bikes, but Dang!, It really hits one hard to hear that even a simple bar end weight screw isn't available anymore for a 3rd Gen VFR.
So this means our older VFRS are certainly becoming rarer as the years go by because the proprietary parts to maintain and restore the to roadworthy condition are becoming "unobtanium"........
So,....... does that mean that they might actually start appreciating in value for collectors??
Heck!, I think they should as VFRS are not just any stinkin in line 4 bikes

I'm sure I've got a few of those, if Amazon lets you down.  Not sure of condition, but I'd be happy to have a look.  The Honda screws can be effectively substituted with many others, but only the OEM style and finish will do when you're competing in those motorcycle concours competitions...  :wink:

if it was me I would order the 4 gen screw, if the only problem is that it is to long. if it bothers you cut it to the right size, but any "extra" would not be visible in the handle bar.
