Do many of you drain the cylinder chamber of coolant? Dang drain sits on top of the oil filter and I just changed the oil. :(
Coolant Flush - 5Th Gen
The first time I did but the second and third time (2 different VFRS) I didn't.
Thanks for the reply. I've owned two other 6th gens and never did either.
I did when I tried engine ice because you have to completely remove the old stuff but since switching back to normal coolant I havent bothered. It holds enough in the block to throw off a 50/50 premix, dont remember the exact amount.
I've gone through 2 gal of distilled water to flush the system. Going to flush it with clean coolant to make the final coolant fill closer to 50/50.
Why flush ?
If the system has been run on 50/50 anti-freeze/water, then it should never need flushing. One of the atributes of anti-freeze is corrosion inhibiters !
You will gain nothing in the process & the front/rear block bottoms hold a tiny amount of coolant when on the side stand. Just look at where the water inlets to the block are & how much of the water jacket is below that inlet !
You should only have to flush & or dry the coolant system if
1. it has been run on raw water for any period of time or
2. you are changing to a waterless coolant as per a previous poster !
YMMV
