Thanks Phantom - thought the VFR was all done at 170.xxx last Labor Day.
Then, at Loring's May event, I ran 175.xxx with a tailwind.
Yesterday, I made a 170.xxx pass on pump gas, then topped up about 2/3 tank with C9 racing fuel, at 96 octane. It took me three passes to get there, but 177.702 mph beats BMW Factory Racing with a stock, other than guhl speed restriction and rev-limit work, Honda.
My friend Ralphie Navarro broke the 1000cc record at 220.xxx yesterday on a BMW S1000RR, so BMW can rest on that. Honda has the fastest shaft drive ... unless ... Phantom - any more? That was a good find on the BMW record!
As for Veefour's claimed 188 mph at the end of my last post, I've got to cry bunk, no disrespect intended. At 170 it's already above redline. At 177 it's over 10,750 rpm, and there's just not enough power way up there for another 11 mph. I may have been accelerating at the 1.5 mike trap, but it wasn't at all apparent.
In in any event, it was heaps of fun! I sure would like to see someone else run out their VFR for a sanctioned event . Some competition would be a lot of fun too.
Thanks burns. I didn't go to the minimal effort to remove the mirrors, have splice connectors for the purpose, just didn't get around to it, so just folded them back.
Swimmer, maybe it will be the fastest VFR of all time, unless someone goes the extra inches to remove their mirrors!
RC, the VFR wouldn't be competitive in its class with Hayabusas, and wouldn't be the fastest shaft drive bike with a chain final drive.
I see you have the DCT, what shift mode did you use during your runs?
As far as Veeefour's 188, the speed delta is likely due to speedo inaccuracy. Your time was measured independently, I recall his speed was read from his speedo.
Marsman - Ran in Sport mode, played with short shifting in manual last year, no point. It's so crisp in Auto. At the 1-2 shift point, if your front wheel is on the not ground, the dct won't shift in any mode, so long as that front is down it just punches gear to gear. Vee had said a pic of GPS reading at 303kph existed, FYI. Draw your own conclusions :-), I'm here for fun.
Mohawk - thanks. Aero is superbly stable at any speed. May research stock factory bagger record, maybe two-up record, for Labor Day. Who knows?
Ran 172.702 mph at the mile, and 177.311 mph at the 1.5 mile yesterday at Loring on my 2010 DCT VFR!
As as I posted last Spring

Well, you got to accept that as I have GPS measurement. Unless you are calling me a liar?
You can be the "second" fastest...my advice is to switch to manual transmission so you can do more.
179,8 MPH is what I can prove but I've seen more on my speedo but never recorded with GPS.
Took me couple of km to achieve tho - German Autobahn.
303 kph is what I've seen on "speedo" which we all know is waaay OFF. GPS on the other hand is DEAD accurate.
Not sure how you can have 177 at redline - you can't cheat the MATH - 11k rpm gives 188 MPH which I claimed as a theoretical
Just made four passes in "normal" weather. 169.xxx.
Tried last in D mode, slower mile, same 1.5 mile speed. It does short shift in D, but not a big effect.
Veefour, if you're cred is increased by knocking DCT, have at it. Your claims are bunk unless you're finding 80kmh tailwinds on das autobahn. The euro speedos are crap, get a US speedo if you want to stop dreaming. Read 178 at 177mph.

Peace out!
VFR155, Your claims are bunk unless you're finding 80mph tailwinds on Die Autobahn, not "Das".
US speedos are crap and your made that pass sheet on your PC at home and your mom printed it for you so can be a real wannabe.
Actually GPS is not all that accurate, especially in phone application. I've seen a fair bit of deviation compared to proper GPS systems. But on a flat road they are reasonably accurate, all depends on the number of satellites tracked & the update frequency.
Phone based systems do NOT account for elevation changes in their speed calculation & neither do many of the cheap units, thus they become less accurate if you are climbing or descending a hill.
Unfortunately all speeds are hearsay unless recorded in an official manner, such as a time trial, or land speed record event. A measured speed with certified equipment is the only way to claim a record !
Thank you Mohawk. Veefour looks like he is relying on a screenshot from an app. As suspected, bunk! A three coil steamer of bunk. Who knows who's 9/11 he was in when he snatched that?

I reckon you made your sheet yourself homie - bunk! I think you don't even own any bike...
And ... One can find information matching my pictured time slip at www.loringtiming.com and any other passes L122 has made since 2013 or 2014 when I started running it.

My friend has a Drift Box - we compared 100kph from this app and 100kph with DB and it was dead straight.
Next time I'll take that DB with me to prove that VFR155 is a BUNK!
And you can't argue with Drift Box as it's used to measure the Guinness Records...

Yeah, yeah - your mom has a very good printer at work...BUNK!
Veefour, I left the "other" VFR site because of a negative troll like you. Why do you feel it necessary to brag about your unverified numbers, and knock mine from an officially sanctioned timing association?
I I will answer any intelligent replies courteously and respectfully, as always. Veeweenie your posts will no longer be acknowledged by this community member. I bought my VFR after it sat in the showroom for two years, at a deep discount, and I had interest in both the unique V4, and the DCT. You apparently bought yours for the same reason Americans buy Harleys ... tiny in the pants ... safe travels!

No no no, you are the only negative troll here. For me your US "officially so called blah blab whatever" association "slip" is as much plausible
as my GPS measurement - nobody can verify that, neither care to verify...because why? That slip you provided means nothing to me as
I can duplicate it in 10 min using Paint...
I provided the proof - long before you even tried yourself. You instantly assumed that I have a shitty EU speedo, BUNK! and I'm probably lying...
You lied about me claiming 188mph - I never said that. Then Marsman told you that I was referring to the SPEEDO reading.
Then you said: Vee had said a pic of GPS reading at 303kph existed- which I never said you LAIR!
Who's the liar here? WTF?!?!
As I told you - there's always someone faster out there. You just got super jealous that someone was faster by a tiny bit than your fat ass.
I have a feeling that even if I provide the NASA satellite reading you will still claim that is a EU shitty BUNK!
Because you are a jealous troll and you cant accept certain things - grow up!
Records are achieved on a sanctioned, verified, measured track. The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) was the first and only for many many years. The SCTA has approved the East Coast Timing Association, and the Loring Timing Association, and perhaps others.
Spped is is measured by tripping lights, one 60ft (1/88th mile) before the measured distance and the second at the measured distance. There is no more accurate known method of recording speed.
Records using any other method, especially self-reported records unverified by an independent third party, are bunk. No sanctioning body recognizes the Guinness Book of Records excepting the Nathan's Hot Dog Timing Associatiin.
Loring is the only 1.5 mile trap outside Bonneville, but their is the Ohio Mile and the Texas Mile if anyone wishes to go after my 172.7 at the mile. Any manual shift should be able to take that out, as the DCT is incapable of launching hard.
Start your own post on downhill AB speed records, I'm just trying to share information here, please go away. I'll start your post for you now! Lay it all out there. Thanks!
VFR155, that is very impressive for no aero mods, factory height with turn signals etc. I am wondering what mods (slip on, decat header, air filter etc....) you have done as you said stock with an ecu flash, but that looks like a slip on. I would love to see you try a few top speed tricks and try again. I could imagine if you lowered the bike a few inches, pulled the mirrors/passenger pegs/rear rack etc and taped up the body lines, plus a slightly taller rear tire (a 190/60 instead of a 190/55), you could pull a few more mph out of the bike. Also if you hadn't already decatted the header and installed a higher flowing air filter etc, I am sure that would help as well.
Thanks CandyRed. It does have an Acro fart can (only) I fitted new. My oversight, that's it for mods. And, yes, I'm running with the 15lb Honda top case rack too. Thought of trying the stock muffler, no time, as with mirrors. I will have more time to play with it next year, this year it's all I can do to make the races at all.
And, I'm not really into running the bejesus out of such a sweet bike. I'll pick my conditions at future events and keep you posted.
I was a volunteer at Loring before I ran, still am. I enjoy watching the whole scene from my private B52 parking spot at Long Shutdown, 2-1/2 miles from the pits, start and spectators. I hot lap when I care to, it's fun. I ran my CBR250R once Thursday,, 96 at the 1.5 mile trap.
Its a a good time at Loring, everyone runs until they're done, out of fuel, broken and/or broke.
Anyone heard from dynajohn? Good man, hope he's OK!

I was on Highway 28 at last years Tmac and saw my VFR 1200 speedo read 87 MPH. Not sure if it is a speed record...but damn it was fun!
typed 87 intentionally? If it was supposed to say 187, I have two suggestions. Post that on the new Veefour post, and, sorry to be blunt, but keep that shit on the track! Wtf?

You should come down and ride with us sometime.
This isn't really a ""you had to be there" comment but it definately helps.
Never been up or down hill on the Autobahn. Would be nice to be there and not have to worry about "speeding", but top speed is not my thing. My top speed on my vfr is probably only around 110. Certainly nothing against it and respect those that have the courage to enjoy it...again...just not my thing. However, my posted 87 mph reading on hiway 28 may have been around a 35mph corner. ;-)

Back in my youth, we used 2X + 10 on yellow corner warning speeds. A 20 mph warning would get a 50 mph entry. Formula repeatedly failed my friend's Kawasaki 1000 and skills. He ended up in bushes, ditches and lawns several times.
Sincere apologies. I left the other VFR site because of ignorant responses. I abandoned my previous post after Veefour's slamming it - I let it be, in hopes she'd just go away. When she hijacked this post I tried to respond firmly, I received pm's in support, and I allowed her to get my goat.
As I've said before, I'm just trying to share information with interested parties, not make any great declarations (both posts on subject are titled with questions marks).
In short, the speeds I have posted at the mile and mile-and-a-half are legit. The next time I post I will get a moderator involved before Veefour starts pitching her pissing match, sadly it's come to that.

Not sure if you know for a fact that Veefour is female or if you are just being passive-aggressive...if the later then I regret kind of siding with you in this little internet pissing match you two were having.
If you know for sure that Veefour, please disregard this post.
I regret posting at all, pardon my pronoun guess. I figured Veefour is either female, or male with a VFR penis extension. I won't be back, you can have your forum all to yourselves. Have at it!

Enjoy your petty bullshit!
It wasn't a pronoun guess though, was it? It was you childishly trying to get in that last little dig despite the discourse having already sunk to the point of a moderator having to come into the thread and call you both out.
Your petty, vindictive, childish little thread stated out well enough and I was interested in learning more about how you came to be associated with an official timing group as well as learning more about the big VFR's performance in this category.
I do hope that you will stay and conitue to contribute informative posts but it could be that you leaving VFRWorld for similar reasons to what you has just transpired here may help you reflect on how to better handle these situations.
For the record, everyone knows that the timing lights are superior to civilian GPS as a means of calculating speed so I wish you had enough confidence in the info you had shared with us to ignore the ignorance of the second Veefour post regarding the accuracy of your trap speed and focused more on the pertinent questions of prepping your bike and your involvement with the timing association.
Best of luck with your search for a better forum, one without petty bullshit. If I ever found a perfect "club" I couldn't join it because I would just make it imperfect.
Pretty sure Veefour's bike is a bit more modified than VR155's stock, reflashed with a can DCT and while this thread degraded quickly, I have no reason to doubt either of you.
Regardless, with lots of mods, our VFR12's go plenty fast.
VFR155, if you are still around, did you add a stabilizer for the front? I remember a post way back where someone was looking for a front steering stabilizer as a requirement to run speed tests...
I was on Highway 28 at last years Tmac and saw my VFR 1200 speedo read 87 MPH. Not sure if it is a speed record...but damn it was fun!
If GPS is accurate then my NC700 top speed reading of 276 mph must be legit. Pulled that off on the Cherohala. I regularly see over 200 MPH on 28 with the GPS so that makes Gloryracing's top speed look pretty pathetic now doesn't it? The speedo shows a much slower speed so I will stick with the GPS for bench racing.
Missed you at TMAC this year Mark. You should do the Fall ride. You tried the S21s yet? Want to get a mileage report when you finish a set off.
The top speed from my trip to FL this spring was pretty impressive. The ST1300 is a shaft drive so you VFR1200 boys got some work to do...just sayin
The 87mph reading was during a no brake run. If I would have been on the gas I am sure readings would have been closer to 300!!! Speeds in AR never seem to reach so high. I am guessing the thinner air in TN and NC are what is allowing you to post those speeds.
Hoping to get back to the fantastic roads in the smokies soon...probably not this fall but maybe next year. I know how much you must miss me...so...ya know you could come down and experience AR this fall for a fix.
Got 2 sets of s21's during the last rebate. Waiting till cooler fall weather to mount up the first set. Will let you know how they last. FYI...just pulled an 016pro rear that lasted about 1150 till cords appeared. Price was right so I thought I would give them a try thinking they may handle the 2up heat better. Unfortunately, they started to evaporate a bit as well. Guess I need to get one of those black st 1300's so I can slow down a bit and get better tire mileage!!!
Obviously when the roads turns back on itself and GPS satnavs struggle to stay connected you can get some squirrely readings. I have seen my gps go from an indicated 127 on the TOD to a recalculating, make a U turn when possible. I would take that as hey, you are going the wrong way.
On straight roads with good sat coverage you can expect a +- 3% error for civilian stuff.
I have no lknowledge of the magic box that the Guiness book of records accepts as legit but timing lights are the trump card for any speed measuring contest.
That is not excatly the measuring contest that this thread devolved into but you get my drift...
The trouble with GPS & lights are that they can only measure average speed over a certain distance; they don't measure absolute speed.
I guess the only way to measure absolute speed is with a calibrated radar gun.
:comp13: :goofy:
With a radar gun you would have to be the only thing in it's field of view. Radar does not find the fastest object but (as you know Skids) returns the instantaneous speed of the largest objects' radar return signal.

Yes, but you can focus the beam and with Pulse Doppler, it measures relative speed of any object it can see so a moving bike would stand out from any other returns.
In theory at least it should be more accurate than an average speed, almost irrespective of how short that average speed was measured over (can't remember how to calculate it for GPS and can't be arsed Googling it).
What about the need to go one direction and then the opposite direction, then average the two runs, to get an official top speed, as averaging the two runs in opposite directions would cancel out the effects of any possible head/tail wind.
Absolutely. As I said, the lights & GPS only give you an average speed over a certain distance, and that is what is required for official records. I was just pointing out that it doesn't actually give you the true fastest speed.

This is necessary when the wind is above a certain mph IIRC....

Still we are splitting extremely fine hairs 5 ways to think that the average speed across a distance of only 60 feet would have much variance when you are travelling over 260 feet each second.

But it's attention to detail like that which wins you the record!
Of course we are also taking planetary rotation into account here, right? The difference between groundspeed and planetary rotation will have to be adjusted according to the actual direction of the track, a simple east-west layout would be fine and require no further adjustment but anything else will have to be correctly juxtaposed against the measurements between the Cartesian co-ordinates... I recommend six-figure grid references, seeing as it's a world record we're talking about.
We are truly in the weeds now on the motorcycle shaft drive world speed record. My shaft drive VFR is so powerful I'm going to time travel backward to when this thread first started and not read it, thus the time I spent reading it will not have happened.

Should absolute top speed be measured relative to a motionless point in space?

I go for 8 digit grid & remember to specify the map scale, as 6 digits ont 1:600000 is not very accurate :)
That said is you do an east west run, then the variables are the same for everyone, so pointless.

Indeed it is splitting extremely fine hairs in the case of questioning the accuracy of VFR's documented top speed at Loring if that is the intent of anyone here. The speed is measured over 60 feet at the 1.5 marker. This motorcycle was drag and HP limited at this speed. He was probably very close to his recorded top speed 800 ft. before the 1.5 mile marker. This track does not have the facility for making two way runs like the salt flats so arguing over whether his recorded top speed is valid or not is not relevant in this case. It is valid for this track and online at the Loring site for anyone who wants to look it up. Whether you think VFR's time and effort over two summers was wasted in pursuing this endeavor all I can say is opinions differ. I personally congratulate and thank him for sharing the story over his two seasons of racing at Loring.

I was not questioning your intent CornerCarver I was actually agreeing with you but I can see re-reading my post why you thought I did. Re-read edited post and you have my apology for not being more careful.
I hope you guys realize that you can have a difference in rear tire diameters due to tire manufacturer variations, which would of course change your gear ratio, and therefore your top speed. If you want to go a bit faster, get a larger diameter rear tire.

Got to love those thread resurrection first posts...
Love seeing that my VFR could get to 175+, but it'll have to do it vicariously because it's rider would fall off even a full throttle 3rd gear roll on!
