Hello,

I'm not that much of a fan of forum's(to many people saying what can and can't be done) and i dont like 4 strokes (tractors) ........but horses for coarsers and I do like to try and help spark an idea or two.

I'll start at the start.

I bought a VFR 750 RC36 over a year ago to commute, I haven't commuted for many many years and to be truthful I've never ridden a sports-tourer, my first ride was nearly my last.......I never new a motor cycle could turn that wide and need so much effort.........must do something about the super long wheelbase and playing with the rake and trail.

OK so after a play in the shed, if got the sag to 30mm (not ideal but it's the best I can get with the 954 rear shock) a home made top shock mount has given me some more ride height.

A quick squint on ebay I found a company making a set of different lower suspension plates (they wouldn't make a set to my spec, so I welded them up and drill them where I wanted them) that will  raise the rear 45mm add this with my ride height adjuster I'll get a shorter wheelbase, reduced rake, more weight over the front........it's worth a go.

This was a step in the correct direction, but I found that other riders would push past and then hold me up in corners, I think due to the pipe and slippers look of the old girl, so she needs to loose weight (I'll take weight loss over BHP any day) gain more weight over the front, look like a race track refugee and a set of Dunlop 212 gp in medium............RC36 here we come.

so a quick add on Gumtree had a buyer for the pipe and the fairing's and my lovely wife looking at a rolling chassis in the shed, I had a couple of days to get this up and running for work............fire up the espresso machine, it's going to get a little busy.

After a look through my fairing collection I pulled out the TYGA fairings that I deemed to big to go on my MC21 SP (I've been waiting for my brother to highside his Gixxer thou to put them on.......but alas after 14 years I've given up waiting).

A TYGA maggot muffler and the removal of the cat should give her a nice unsilenced note above 2,500 ish RPM (this should keep the locals happy till she is rolling), removing the snorkel from the air box and enlarging the intake 5% with 132.5 mj's has taken care of the mix.

A mix of 636 and CBR rearsets has taken care of the feet and a set of clipons set up wiiiiiiiide has the hands somewhere to sit.

what this has done has lost a lot of weight and sag is at 15mm........she steer's nicely, brakes better, changes line like a squirrel on speed

I don't care what anyone else has to say about your project.

You bought it, you ride it, you like it.  Good on ya.  For what it's worth, I think it's the bees knees.  Curious what else you have in the works.  :)

Looks like a moto3 bike now... deceiving.

Personally I am a fan of VFRs on the track, I just wish Honda would make one for us so we wouldn't have to mod ours so much! I like what you've done so far, keep it going.

Like what you're doing here, was it much work to get the MC 21 fairing to fit? Looks like you had to cut some of the fairing to make place for the gear and break lever.

Stryker, the only mods to the fairings were 1. Widen the area where the seat unit wraps around the tank 2. Remove some of the belly pan for center stand (until I build a race stand I need to swap rims) and around the exhausts  (que shower scene from pschyo)

Duc2V4, it's interesting at the track and the hills the drive from off the throttle likes to eat tyres

yokel,  we have at (SuMoCyCo Suurland Motor Cycle Company.......much respect to Henry Ford) hopefully only one more 4T to cobble together, I have always had a soft spot for the V5 board tracker that RSD built for Mr Kenny Roberts Sr,  combine this with my love of the AJS supercharged V4, I'm going to use a fuel injected V4 800 turboed in a GS frame with CBR rims, girder's ......but I have my lovely wife's big bore banshee motor in a RS 125 frame and my own RG 500 that must come first, I had it reminded to me that we don't live for ever so I would like to push a 500 hard before I relise I'm to old

DemiRacer part 2 .

well after trying the grip of the brilliant french made Dunlop 212 gp in medium vs diesel I needed a rebuild,

I had a set of CBR 1000 fairings that I needed to use on something........so a quick measure up had the suburb drifting off to sleep to the sound of a grinder

The rest of the night was a blur but I did find that 99 R6 rearsets with a 98 R1 rear master cylinder and a TYGA gear shift lever fits perfectly  (finally after all these years honda and yamaha are together) and a piece of perpex has fixed the clutch cover up (and let's the clutch be seen twirling around, a 2nd hand Ohlins rear shock out of an Aprilia RSVR 02 has taken care of the rear and more ride height. .......I can't get the peg down on the road anymore. ......but I'm sorry I am not allowed to post more pictures up, as I have used up all my MB's........,but if anyone is interested it's up on my face book page Sumo Cyco , SuMoCyCo@outlook.com Enjoy 

Tried to find your page on FB, something else came up when I pasted  SuMoCyCo  into the search bar. I like what you've done to your VFR. They are very adaptable, if you have the time, patience and creativity. I have lopped about 20 kilos off of mine from the things that I did to it, and she also handles so much better now. She is currently torn apart as I'm having the frame and swing arm powder coated flat black. That will contrast nicely with my silver fairings. I have also bored out the motor with some custom pistons, and installed a slipper clutch from Sigma Performance. I really can't wait to ride it when the work is all completed, but that is still a month or so away. Nice work, on yours, keep it up!!!

Erskimo, is the front light there to keep the cops happy or does it actually light up the road when its dark? Is the subframe a straight fit?

Think i may have to order some Tyga fairings soon, damn you Erskimo!!  :491:

Sorry gents......I've never actually search for myself,  if you type Sumo Cyco you'll see a white tshirt come up ......that's me,the page proves I'm not very good at taking pickies etc, but I'm getting there.

Stryker,  the head light has been a issue, i cut the back out of it and placed a H4 back in there........ but still it only works at its best at about midday........ I've just retro fitted a pencil beam to my lovely wife's NC30 headlight, so I think I'll fit two of those, one for low beam and two for high.

Douglasthecook, yes I must agree weight loss is wonderful  (I've lost 30 odd kg) i think there is another 7-9 kgs that could be lost off the sprung weight as for the unsprung i would dearly like to use carbon or magnesium rims......but it was all about a cheap build and only using hoarded parts, it has cost (including purchase price) approximately  $2,100.00 Australian........I believe that is the equivalent of  $12.00US or £8.00 ?
