ok so here is my take on what a RWB should look like, it may not be to every ones taste though I am not doing anything to drastic to it as it looks great as is. I am just going to pick up where Honda left off and finish it.
so I bought this bike about 3 months ago with 3300 miles on the bike and had about 1 month to enjoy the bike before the weather went to shit. I put 1500 miles on it in that time. after I put on apex riser bars full DMr suspension I stole from my 02. laser extreme exhaust and front brake ss brake/clutch lines 2 inches longer to maximize riser bars and for the great feel. also did pazzo shorty levers. so that is where I am at now. mostly everything I will be doing is cosmetic changes for now, waiting for tyga to do some headers and then get a rapid bike programmer, until then im happy with the power of the viffer.
NOOOOOO, I didn't mention it as I don't want this thread to be about that. but you went there. I just want to unleash factory bling factor. I mean the clutch is there from the factory right? just need to unleash it.
the clutch cover should be here any day :). agreed on the lug nuts, your bike looks real nice but imo the wheel stripes make them look like cheap trailer wheels. just my thought when I look at them quick.

I welded it today, it will be in the mail Monday and in your hands Wednesday.
3D, RC has done an ace job on his ride. I'm with you though on the wheels. Simple white is best and really detonates the colour scheme. I'm all in favour of what makes us all happy so no best recipe imho. As long as you like the taste.
Here is my custom plate mount. Looking for a machine shop to make one out of aluminum for me now. Fits between the laser exhaust and works with givi saddlebag mounts and looks good too. This was just a temp mount but worked flawless for 1500 miles. Made it out of old school snowboard material. Works really good.[image: image.jpeg][image: image.jpeg][image: image.jpeg]
it is a nice color, i did like it on my red viffer, the RWB needs white though, that and matching the color would be a pain, not sure if i could ever get a 100% match. this way i know they will match, still had to strip a brand new $800 wheel haha
yes, well I am powder coating them, they will be a satin-ish wrinkle black, same as my clutch cover when it gets back from seb.. I did a buddys red vfr in the same stuff, does not show dirt or scratches, cleans easy too. unlike the white wheels that will show everything haha.
I did my 02 in mirror gloss black which is the deepest highest gloss I could find at the time, it looked great when it was clean but scratched easy and showed it, also always dirty
I was thinking about the 98/99 header but I don't want to throw money at headers that will be replace when tyga gets around to making some. from what I have read last couple days is that it is still going to be done, just not right off. I can live with stock until the good stuff rolls out, maybe next winter I will do tyga and rapid bike. that will give me this summer to get a base line dyno pull done. oh hell I need to find a local guy that has a dyno.
Ok little bit of a update. Been sick last week or 2 kinda blending together right now so no real progress been made.
lucky for me this morning I woke up feeling good so tonight I made it to the shop, got some sandblasting done.
here is a couple parts that came in last week.
ok we all know what the 3rd part is. The first 2 are also from sebspeed. It is a real nice plate mount that I had him make for me, going off a piece I had made out of plastic. It came out damn near perfect. It will be getting powder coated to match everything else and shouldn't even be noticed when done. (except the big green plate that will be mounted to it)[image: image.jpeg][image: image.jpeg][image: image.jpeg]
got some more updates for everyone, after being sickly for a week or so I got back into powder coating, and not to toot my own horn or pat my own back, damn these parts came out NICE.

You should be tooting your own horn and patting yourself on the back - this is inspired work! The 10 spoke in white should look fantastic on it - I'm stoked to see it on the completed bike. You'll definitely have a one of a kind RWB for sure!
Looking good! I like the matt black finish you've gone for - it looks really smart.
Top tip: refit the undertray before pillion peg brackets - I scratched one of mine (also powdercoated) because I fitted them in the opposite order.
One point you may want to note, is that the bracket that attaches to the licence plate bracket to the bike should be removed as part of the pannier installation, and replaced with a much sturdier version. There is a guide on here in the luggage section that has further details.
Are you replacing the bolts with stainless ones? I found that the tarnished and slightly rusty mild steel bolts detracted from the overall look of the bike; our weather is a bit crummier than yours though,s yours may be in better condition...
90% of the bolts are in good condition. A couple around the chain guard are pretty rough. Bike on had 3400 miles when I bought it last year so pretty clean. Just the bolts that were not easy to get to got crapped on.
this is the 3rd 6 gen I have torn down like this so I get the pan vs peg mount issue but thanks for the heads up. Cannot wait to get my shock back. Then I can mount sub frame back on. :)

Only 3.4k?! That's brand new!
My viffer has 70k on it, so no wonder the majority of the bolts are looking worse for wear, but yeah, the ones near the chain guard were particularly bad as well. That said, the long one through the frame and engine was by far the worst, and was seized in the engine. I'd definitely recommend taking it out and giving it a good lube, thus preventing galvanic corrosion.

That appears to be a common thread for VFRs. The long engine mounting bolt at the back was seized pretty solid on my 5th Gen when I took her apart. It was only a BIG lump hammer and some very large hits got it out.
I wish I had some of the skills on show on this forum.
well just set the wheel on tonight its not tight yet I am waiting on my shock from Jamie D tracking number says tomorrow so yippie...
so I am in need of some new lug nuts, 5 blue ones and it will match my clutch, anyone got some or got a ebay link to the right ones to get?
also I am about to push the button on lowering foot pegs for myself. the knight design ones look really nice but for $200 shipped is there anything else out there? maybe I don't need the ones with the rubber on them? anybody got any ideas?

That's going to be smokin' hot all right.
If you want to lower the stock pegs you can get the peg lowering blocks right here from BusyLittleShop. They bolt right on. Love 'em. I don't recall exactly what I paid, but you can get a lot better deal than $200. I thought he might have some photos of them in his gallery, but all I see are hot girls and hot bikes! Go figure . . . LOL! I can scrounge up a photo of mine if that helps.
the black is a textured black I forget the exact name but will get it tonight.
the white is a mirage white suppose to have a sparkle to it (it has pearl in it) but it don't sparkle after baked, I did something wrong will have to get hold of the company about it. I did follow their directions perfectly (maybe that's what I did wrong)
thanks for all the complements so far. I hope to get home and find a shock waiting for me tonight :cheerleader:
that would be great, I will look him up too thanks
Sorry this took so long . . .
These allow the pegs to function as stock folding normally. I removed the feeler and replaced it with a socket head bolt so it wouldn't be touching the pavement too soon. One thing you'll run in to is that the side stand will come up and hit the peg. To solve that, in the last photo there is a small bolt (IIRC 4mm) that I installed on the back side of the stand where it comes up and contacts the stop. The bolt head spaces the stand down a bit to prevent it from hitting. To do that I removed the stand and used a drill press to drill a blind hole, then tapped it. Once the bolt was threaded in I used a file to get the thickness just right to keep the stand just clear of the peg. Once I had it where I wanted it I backed it out and used a tiny drop of blue Loctite on final assembly. It's been working great for 20,000 miles. On the other side the stop light switch and master cylinder pushrod length are an issue. There I used a Dremel to shorten the rod a couple of threads and a split ring on the spring for the light switch to prevent the brake light from being constantly on.
These have made a big difference for me on long rides. It doesn't seem like much, but that extra inch gives the legs and knees enough additional room for comfort. I hope that helps. Keep the photos coming - love seeing them.
Just checked my shock got dropped off at the house this morning. Will make for a good night in the shop for sure.
oh yea and I experimented with a new coating last night on a lot of hardware. I hope it looks good I don't think I have the equipment to take it off now.
in stages. I was just looking at them last night but the money is getting tight. I will take care of them when I unleash power and do a full tyga system

Honestly the delink is more elbow grease and ingenuity, than money. I was able to reuse one of the existing rear brake lines and make a loop out of the second one. Up front I am sure you could do something similar, but you would be better off doing a front end swap. I was able to find an already R1 swapped front end off of a 4th gen that supposedly hydrolocked it's engine for $500 and then sold my front end for about the same price, so I didn't really spend anything. You could do the same, but it takes some luck/planning/good timing.
that might happen down the road, but for now I will stick to unleashing everything vfr stage 1
so some more of stage 1
just running some wires here, got my heated grip, autocom, gps, volt meter and air horn run through the fuse box run though a 30 amp relay that is triggered when I turn the key on. got my trigger power from the power going INTO brake light switch always has power when key on. I also have a battery tender lead hooked into the fuse box, 2 leads are hot when the key is off this way I can keep the terminals on the battery clean with minimal connections, hate a clustered battery.

sebspeed did a great job on my new plate mount for me. still need to tuck some more wires, but I think next it to start polishing some exhaust pipe and getting that beast ready to go.
also need to pull the mufflers apart I think maybe the packing done burned up in the 20000 miles I have had them (they came from my other bike) they are getting a bit raspy, any ideas on how to make laser extremes throatier than normal. besides replacing them?
I am pulling the mufflers apart now to repack them, trying to get some of the raspy sound out of it for more of a deep tone. hope fully it will work out with some new packing material.
3D, did not want to add any additional drive other than what you are currently working at. Just this is pretty cool. :-) Take your time but know many are watching. And thank you tremendously for sharing your adventure with us! Cheers!
3D, your build is just awesome. I didn't think the new 8th gen wheel would look as sweet as it does but holy cow. Sometimes you just have to see the artwork to appreciate it. Really nice.
All that time to make the lazer (my fav vfr 6th gen exhaust) piping all polished yet few decent rides especially in rain will be covered in grit again. The only hope to try keep clean is also fit a hugger, I gave up trying to keep headers connecting pipes clean after polishing like you have & then also tried jet hot coating that I was told was easier to keep clean, nope.
I know it will be crapped up this summer but I hope to keep it clean for the summer, I don't mind if it turns golden it the nasty spots I do not like. if tyga ever does headers or I can find a set of erion or two brothers I can cerakote the entire system. as long as it looks good on day 1 I am good with that.
I love the plate bracket you had Sebspeed make for you. Couple of questions. What did you use for the license light and is there an addition small brkt between the plate and original Honda brkt? If so is that also something you had Sebspeed make? I'm thinking about asking him to make one for me. The previous owner put an aftermarket plate mount on my RWB and it's too far forward and I have to trim the plate to keep it from scratching the Staintune mufflers that are mounted.
please note that this is made to fit between my laser extreme mufflers that have been spaced outwards to clear the plate. not sure if they will fit with your staintunes. also the bracket it made to be the same size as the deals gap surround which may or may not work with what you have.
If you want I could mail you (at your cost) the plastic mount that I made as a template to see if it works for you, then you could get hold of sebspeed about it. not sure if he kept the numbers needed or not.
What I'll probably do is get the oem brkt installed and see what I need to do using carboard templates. You're possibly right on the fittment with the Staintunes. I need the plate to go aft enough to clear the tire and drop enough to clear the pipe. The info on the light will work. It looks nice.
got my muffler packing material in the other day, first time trying this but seemed like the best way to go on these mufflers as anything else like a wrap would be to hard to get tight. this I can pack it as tight as I want. we will see how it works out when I start it and see how it sounds.
finally got the mufflers mounted where I want them, needed to build new brackets as the original ones with the exhaust suck and would not accommodate new location. still a sob to get lines up and straight. now that I have them where I want them I need to remove brackets and powder coat them to match everything else :(
I have about 30+ hours into making the exhaust the way I want it. might be done with the bike come November lol...

so now that I have the mufflers and saddlebag mounts where I need them I turned focus to the shock reservoir for a few minutes. thanks to Jamie extending my line when I sent the shock back to him this year I was able to find a mount that worked and with a few simple modifications got it to work for me as shown here.
yes it would be, the mounts that they send are a joke, it takes hours of tweaking to get them close, then they still suck. my new mounts are very simple less adjustment to them but yet with just a few minutes of adjustment they come out damn near perfect, well perfect from my seat anyways. :)
Oh yes and I feel your pain over the original Laser Xtreme mounting brackets... They drove me mad. Apparently I got an early version which are impossible to adjust and made from shitty quality materials.

30 hours lining up the exhaust alone! Holy s*$t man. Bike is looking awesome though.
Gotcha. It's all going to be worth it in the end. I like the Lazer cans its amazing how someone could make such a cool looking and unique exhaust, and then cheap out on the mounting brackets.
next project is to finish acc. wiring, fit rear brake reservoir, flush rest of brake fluid, did the fronts in the fall when I fitted SS lines along with a clutch line, flush out coolant, turn bike around on lift and powder coat front wheel white, powder coat fork lowers black, top triple tree in black
thanks. next list of mods is to change the odometer so it reads more than 4696 miles. going to do that the old fashion way.
Hey that's a great way to look at increasing odometer readings, 3D! I've been going about it bass ackwards...fretting about putting on so many miles, stocking a thermostat and waterpump with associated orings, and making other fear-and-lack based preparations.
Pointing out that an odometer that reads higher is an upgrade was a very wise insight by you. Thanks.
I'm not a white wheel fan. My first bike had them and they were always dirty. However, I think they look good against the red.
They look perfect for the RWB. Much better than black.
So true - one cannot go wrong with white wheels providing ground clearance for a VFR done in 'natural' R157 Italian Red. Honda must have had a marketing/copyright problem with calling it Ferrari Red.
