Afternarket Controls Question

Hey All,

I have question that might seem silly, but I'm new to this, so you've been warned!   :cool:

My current project is a '92 VFR 750 and I want to replace the controls the previous owner installed. I''m fairly certain they are not the original equipment and the are pretty beat up. My question is, can I swap the controls out with a generic kit such as something like the following? https://www.ebay.com/itm/381681335903

I understand there might be some work involved, but I'm wondering:
A) How difficult it really is and will it actually work well?
B) Are there easier direct swaps that would work better?

I would imagine that it would be a fairly straight forward swap. The only thing that I can see posing any problems is that most controls have a locating pin in them. This helps them keep their respective angle on the bar, as well as prevents them from rotating forward/aft, inboard/outboard. Also, the wiring or electrical connector may be a little different, but that is also an easy fix, providing you have the wiring schematic to both the controls and the VFR.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm ok with some adaptation work, but don't want to walk into a nightmare.

Spend just a little bit more and buy used OEM Honda controls. They will be better quality, and the wiring colors will 99% match, and they will be easier to re-pin.You should be able to find a set off a late-model CBR for under $30.

As far as the locating pin... it is nice to have, but not necessary. You can do without if you add a bit of tape to the bars for the control housing to "bite" into.

Thanks, I think your 100% right. The more I think about it the more I would prefer to go that route....overall a less hassle, but just wasn't sure what would fit (working on bikes is new to me...coming from the jeep world). So something like? CBR929RR Right Kill Switch

That kill switch should work. I went with an even slimmer version of the start/stop switch on my VFR. I believe the switch unit was off of a newer CBR. Unfortunately I don't have a pic right now, but if I can find one, I'll upload it.
