Oh yes, you read that right. We're doing it again, for the 4th year running.

As always, the plan is to meet in Kernville on Friday night, October 6th - yeah yeah, better late than never. How you get there is up to you, and book your own rooms unless you want to sleep at a shady bar. Stay at the Kernville Inn (11042 Kernville Rd), beer, pizza, etc. Then, it's shitty pre-ride breakfast and party time:

Saturday: Kernville to Shaver Lake (https://goo.gl/maps/dzuKrxMzX4N2) - traditionally we stay at the Shaver Lake Hotel find a room wherever you can!

Sunday: Shaver Lake to wherever you came from (https://goo.gl/maps/yuaV5SkDC1C2)

As always you're welcome to join and peel off as you please, just let us know your plan. Speeding, passing on double yellows, and cutting the huge line at the Kings Canyon park entrance are encouraged but not required.

Well, you know my story...I'll be there!

#3

I'm in for Saturday & Sunday, still figuring out Friday.

#4

Last year was great. I'm working to resolve a conflict w track days in Vegas Oct 7-8. It's good to see the riffraff beginning to chime in for this epic ride.

Riffraff?? Who you calling riffraff?

Oh, that's right, I don't own a vfr anymore. Cue the Time Warp...

#6

Hey Noel! You can be Riff if i can remain Raff. Sorry to hear you've moved on from the 7th gen. The Multistrada sounds like a close substitute - are you following in Crazybrother's footsteps?

#7

I'll be in Arkansas being Grandpa. Otherwise, I'd be a maybe. I like that area.  :tour:

Hey Lance, yes I guess I am following crazybro, although red not white. See my post Talking to Myself in Other Motorcycle Talk, perhaps that will explain my vfr defection.

So, cancel that track day in Vegas and join the tribe in the Sierras! Cuz now you know you won't be the only one in a stitch.

#9

Your 'Talking to Myself' thread had me laughing out loud for real, not just a polite lol for the Aerostitch reference. Had a definite Richard Bach feel to it. That last comment from '2012 you' had a lot of subtext; I've heard several guys say they never slept with a 5th gen that didn't provide an exhilarating experience [Insert reference to impending divorce here].

#10

<--------- there's the riff raff you're looking for

There are many days to hit the track, but only one GSS ride. Checkmate!

#11

I have a pending heavy work comittment starting in October sometime. Timing may be just right for me to go before  it starts. Still have all my gear ready from my last solo moto ride to Mammoth and Yosemite handy. I vowed to get another trip in before winter. Sequoias is just right.

I'm in, see you guys Friday night. Oh and maybe I will bring the RC Tuono...........

#13

I checked here Tuesday afternoon, and no action. Gotta be quick on your feet, 2 days and all the rooms are booked at Shaver Lake - not staying in the bunk house............had to book at Musick Creek down the street...........

Sounds good, just keep us posted. I'll put you as a "maybe" for now.

Damn! Guess we better get our s--t together (not one of my skills)

#15

Booked Musick Creek Inn for 10/7 (thanks Jim). Sounds like they are getting low on rooms also.

#16

As soon as I get home, I'll book a room...I hope! At work and caught a quick break and posting this from my phone.

#17

Well I got home very late and just procrastinated on looking into getting a room. I did however call this morning and found that the Musick Creek had one space left but it is a 2 story unit with 3 queen beds for $180.00/night. Anybody want to share this? He said it had a fridge, microwave, etc. If anybody wants to split this, I think time is of the essence!

#18

Rather than risk losing the room, I booked it. Hopefully those who haven't booked theirs yet can just share this cabin with me. I have 48  hours before the date to cancel, so if you're hemming and hawing, please don't wait too long. Although I don't mind having a huge place to myself, I'd rather not have to pay the for the whole lot if I don't have to.

Cheers!

Hells yeah, count me in to share. Sweet find!

Sweet. I'm sure there's plenty of room for more, although I didn't ask for the square footage was. He said 3 queen beds and 2 stories, hopefully that meant the building and that he's not going to read us a couple of stories before bed.

Sweet find!

+1, nice!.

I'll bet that crazybro and/or tc will be happy to join your new frat house. You might want to text or pm them (if you haven't already), they may not check this site until it's too late.

#22

Looks like sfdownhill will be taking the third bed. So hopefully he'll chime in to let you all know he's going.

#23

I just found out about this... Hey, I'll take that third bed if available... And if anyone else has a two bed room in Kernville I'll take that one too... Please let me know. Text me at 916-802-3737

As I don't get email notifications from VFRD so I won't know if anyone has replied to this thread.

Thanks guy's

#24

Yessir, I'll be trying to keep tc339, BrianF, Duc2V4, and the rest of you in sight Oct 7-8. Duc2V4, I'm in on the 3rd bed Saturday - thanks for tracking down lodging in Shaver.

I got a double room in Kernville for Fri night, and texted crazybrother to see if he wants to share quarters Friday.

haven't heard back from TC, but crazybro is in. I'll sleep on the floor I don't care. Are there sorority girls in Shaver Lake?

I have no problem with another body, not sure what the accommodations are like but I'm sure 4 should sleep comfortable. I'll tack on Crazybro to the list.

Here's who is staying in the 2 story I reserved.

Yessir, just ask anyone in town for directions to the Sigma Lambda Upsilon Tau house at Shaver U.

#30

Shaver U....now we talkin! Heard they keep the downstairs pretty clean.

Of the sorority house, I mean.

#31

Well I can bring a sleeping bag and reserve the sofa if you can fit one more. I will look for my own place as well. I can't totally commit to this trip just yet.

#32

The Mrs and I will be riding that weekend but were looking more into Northern CA.  I've done a lot of guy trips this year and the Mrs and I weren't able do our usual multi day ride so she wants to just chill with her old man so that's the plan.   You guys have fun, looks like a great group.

#33

Since my status on making this trip is still iffy I will plan on checking out the campsites near the lake. So far Edison looks good with electricity, and showers. I have all the gear to enjoy it.

Camp Edison was alright but I think we pissed off the camp host with our "loud" motorcycles.

#36

Sorry guys. Been busy as hell lately. I work the 6-8th and it's gonna be a bitch to get off. Idk if I'll be able to make this one...

#37

Me and Greg just did a 421 mile preview yesterday and the roads (108 & 4) were perfect. Can't post pic's but I can tell you that the Walker BBQ will be open until Nov. And No tickets...

Lance, I just found out that I can't make it on Friday... I'm sure you will find someone else... I'm still in for Saturday, I will have to meet you guy's at Shaver Lake.

#40

I had to "sell" the 1990 to my son, so my wife would let me bring another bike home.

I'll take the extra spot if it's not spoken for. My usual roomie/snuggle buddy TC is out so I need some fresh blood

#42

Sounds good Brian, consider the extra spot yours.

Glad to hear your 1990 is literally still in the family, RC1237V

Hahaha, it actually still in the garage, my son is only 18 so it was a good way to get another bike approved  :goofy:

#44

Anyone else leaving Friday AM ? - Highway 1 is still closed at Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge, so thinking of riding down highway 25, to 198, cross the central valley and reverse engineer the ride from Yokohl  Drive to Kernville Via 190, M90 and M50............Anyone interested????

#45

Everybody on the "yes" list still in? And either of the maybe's gonna make it?

I'm still in, still can't make Kernville Friday, will rendezvous Saturday night Shaver Lake.

#47

Pretty bummed. I'm out. Got my work assignment early. I'll be working some serious overtime working nights starting this wed. Wish I didn't need the money but have some home improvement projects to fund. Have a great time. I know I will be able to make one of these road trips some time.

#48

Still in for meeting up Saturday morning and staying the night at Shaver Lake.

#49

Sorry boys, between work and Hardly Strictly 17, this boy is Bay bound.

Roll On!

#50

Confirming who will be sharing the cabin I have for Saturday night in Shaver Lake. Here’s who I show who agreed to share...

Duc2v4

BrianF

sfdownhill

Crazybro

Hammerdrill

#51

I'm still in for meeting you guy's Saturday and staying in the Chalet... :cheerleader: Maybe Noel will hook up and ride with me (Duc Party).

#52

Well, I made it home safe and sound. Got home right about 1:30, with two short breaks, one with a gas fill up.  Thanks go to Brian for setting this up and to everyone actually, for coming out. Although it’s a bit of a trek for me, I really like riding with this group, hopefully next year we can get the few people who couldn’t make this one. Possibly rent the big chalet again, as we know it can fit quite a few people.

Cheers,

D,

#53

Got home around 4:00, stopped at The Junction on the back side of Mt Hailtin for lunch, the up and over & back home. Thanks again Brian for putting this together and leading the way! 853 miles in 3 days, what a blast! See you guys on the next one!

#54

I also arrived safely tonight, to a motel room near Sacramento around 7:30pm after 400+ miles today. Great time and perfect weather. Props to Duc for doing the GSS from Orange County, and of course to Brian for provoking us to ride the Sierras this weekend.

What a blast indeed.

#55

Home safe around 7:45. Had a great time with you all (as always)

What are the odds of all the bikes ridden having single sided swing arms?

I saw that too... I was wondering who else would notice.

Haha, yup! Also, no red Hondas. And for the record, I believe I had the only stock exhaust.

Brian might need that to get through the rubble. Napa is devastated, I could not believe what I was seeing on the news - Brian, hope you're OK - sent a PM, but power is most likely out, and I heard the cell towers are all down too .

#61

Yeah, California is on fire from North to South. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and help the fire fighters get a handle on them, the high winds in So Cal had the Canyon Fire 2 (as it's called) moving at a rate of 35MPH!

Anyone get a hold of Brian? I tried texting earlier this morning and have not seen a response yet. I hope he is OK and it's just hard for him to get a message or message back.

Have not heard from him, but there are at least 80 cell towers down or destroyed here in Sonoma and Napa counties, and there are a lot of power outages. His house is in the city of Napa, which is not (yet...) a fire or evacuation zone, so you are probably correct that it's a comm problem. Hope so.

#64

I worked the Redwood Valley fire on Monday will be back out next week. I was concerned about our Mendocino, Napa, and Sonoma members - Brian please update us.

#65

Just heard back from Brian. He is traveling this week so he's out of harms way, seems his house is too.

#66

Riding it out in Canada like a Boss... :wheel:
