So after about 2 and a half years I lost that lovin' feeling for my VFR ...

[video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/uOnYY9Mw2Fg?feature=oembed]

...and now she's gone (sold her for $5,500).

[video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/bnVXIUyshng?feature=oembed]

I also traded in my recently acquired 2010 Honda Elite 110 scooter for a new 2018 Yamaha SMAX scooter so I can now race around my subdivision in flip flops at 80mph instead of only 50mph 😀 . Here's a review vid below that I made on Christmas Eve where I also take the SMAX out on the highway if anyone's interested - LOL

[video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/UqeUL8SbCe0?feature=oembed]

I'll try to pop in once in a while to see what's up but I'll mostly be hanging out on various scooter, Camaro and Yamaha forums as well as my YT channel. I had a lot of fun on my VFR and participating on this forum the last couple of years. There are a lot of great folks on this forum - some of whom I've had the pleasure of actually meeting in person and consider "real" friends. Although I've lost my love for streetbikes, I still love riding on two wheels whether it be my mountain bike or scooter, and there may be a Honda or Yamaha dual sport parked in my garage in the near future 😉

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year!

Reckon you'll be back on a street bike soon though (my guess is a Ducati Supersport) 😉

LOL - thanks Katie, I nearly spewed my orange juice when I read that!  No, I've already narrowed my next mid-life crisis purchase down to either the Yamaha WR250R

https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/dual-sport/models/wr250r

or the Honda CRF250L

http://powersports.honda.com/2019/crf250l.aspx

Two of my favorite motovloggers (RidingwithTom and CycleCruza) have a WR250R in their stable and say it's their favorite all-round bike so I'm leaning in that direction.  There are some awesome off-road motorcycle trails within an hour's ride from me that I want to check out:

So what mileage was on it when you sold it?

#6

Wait, who am I supposed to live vicariously though (meeting gym girls and stuff) now???

#7

Moving on to a scooter forum, perhaps commenting on Vespa reliability?  😉  Anyway, hope you won't wear flip-flops & baseball hat while riding around the 'hood.

Wait, who am I supposed to live vicariously though (meeting gym girls and stuff) now???

LOL - sorry about that.  You should join the Camaro forum - I met a new gym girl who enjoys going for “topless” moonlight rides in my vert.  With the top down it opens up several interesting seating positions 😉

No Way! How do you lose that loving feeling so easy? There has been generations of men who can't shake that feeling? There has to be more to this story than we're being told? 😉

I'm about ready to pick up a new 2015 VFR800F Deluxe. It does seem odd to be considering a motorcycle that has been discontinued? But I can't shake that feeling?

#10

Far too much Christmas cheer Greg! Ya need to carefully rethink what your doin.

#11

So by what means, media did you sell it through?  I know of another one for sale.

#12

If I had bet money on this I'd be rich.

Yeah I know how you feel - when I first bought her I was definitely "hooked on a feeling" 😀  She didn't do anything wrong - we just gradually grew apart after I got my vert - LOL

Sold it to a Honda dealer.  I see they are asking $6,995 for it and I must say she looks pretty damn nice in their pics - they have a great photographer!  Someone will be getting an awesome bike - it was well maintained, always garaged, and never dropped.  Hopefully she'll find someone who will take good care of her 😀

https://www.rchillhonda.com/New-Inventory-2015-Honda-Motorcycle-Scooter-VFR800FD-6286897?ref=list

LOL - I have no idea what it means either.  I was surprised when I looked for a vid of that song to find it was by a Swedish band - I always assumed it was by an American or British band 😀

#19

Yes, Jonathan King did a song called "I don't want to be gay", something that would be impossible and totally politically incorrect these days.

Ironically, Jonathan King was sentenced to seven years in prison for child sexual abuse, so there you have it, amazing the dirt you dig up accidentally.

#20

Interesting - I forgot about B.J. Thomas' original version (I love his "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" - one of my favorite songs of all time).  According to wiki, his original went to #5 in 1969 and the Blue Swedes' version went all the way to #1 in 1974, which explains why I think of their version.  Speaking of B.J. Thomas, I'm taking gym girl for a vert ride later this afternoon - I'm hoping the top won't be the only thing going down 😉  It's supposed to be sunny and 74 degrees today so there shouldn't be any rain drops to ruin the fun.

"Vert" is just shorthand for a convertible - here's a video review I made of mine last December.  I think this is about the 12th vert I've owned in my life and it might just be my favorite one.

$5,975?!?  That's a smoking deal for a brand new deluxe (albeit 3-4 years old).   Makes me feel better about letting my '14 go for $5,500.

Take it from an old phart 'vert driver, watch out for sun on the skin. (I raced a beach catamaran for > 20 years and drove a Triumph TR8 for 15.) Now at 70 years old I look like an eight-five year old. Sunscreen and hat are highly recommended. But no cage can compete with a semi-cage Vert! Loved it.

(Lucky for me, no cancer. Yet.)

I'm losing that loving feeling on my 2014 so next Spring it might be for sale.

LOL - thanks - I remember doing one stupid vid where I rode like 50 miles away just so I could take the bike on a single S curve 😀. I notice they peeled off all my Gator stickers but they left the "VFR" badges that I added, it almost looks like it came on the bike so maybe they didn't notice?  Or maybe they were afraid it would damage the paint if they tried to take them off?

I had one in a 1993 Nissan Altima, the first year of the Altima. It was very nice. I don't see them too often, I've always thought it was odd not to see them more often? They really are a nice, safety feature!

I see they have cocked up the advert, showing it as a 1200.

That’s not a very high mileage.

Interesting, now that you mention Nissan I seem to remember a friend of mine had a HUD on his Maxima back in the nineties - that car had all sorts of crazy bells and whistles 😀

Edit:  I found these articles on wiki about HUDs in general, automotive HUDs, and an article about a HUD that can be mounted in a motorcycle helmet like a fighter pilot 😎. According to wiki the first car with a HUD was the 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Indy Pace Car replica 🤓

Advert is missing two pertinent selling points.

1. Never been cornered.

2. Never been above 5000rpm.

Should fly out the door.😀

#35

So I was reminiscing over some of my many VFR vids today (what can I say - I'm a hopeless romantic - LOL) and I thought I'd leave you guys with an encore presentation of what I have determined to be my two favorites.   AFAIK, there are no other vids in the universe of any vehicle, much less a VFR, riding around on Disney World property at triple digit speeds while managing to avoid detection by the Disney cops 😀  And AFAIK, there are no other vids in existence of a VFR getting washed by not just one, but two ladies in bikinis 😀  Enjoy!

Just imagine how many vids you could have if you had ever ridden it anywhere.

An average of 25 miles per week. Scary.

I know  I don’t use mine much and have use of another bike for commuting to work, but in the same period of time I’ve added 20,000 miles more than you to mine.

Wow - you must have a LOT of hair on your chest in order to ride a bike that far - I bet the ladies can't keep their hands off you! 😀 Since my goal in life is to one day be an expert rider like you (I'm still in awe of the track vid you posted where you managed to get passed by literally everyone else on the track - LOL) please tell me precisely how many miles per week I must ride to qualify.  I'm sure my scooter miles won't count so I'm gonna go buy the 2004 R1 (a real man's bike) at the same dealership above.  It only has 10,000 miles in 14 years so I'm betting the former owner could use some expert riding lessons from you - LMFAO 😂

It most definitely was a compliment, Gator!  You have always come across as someone that enjoys life because you're comfortable with who you are.  Too bad more people aren't that way.  Next time you decide to scooter on up to the bottom end of the Appalachians, let me know and I'll buy you a beer(s) and that's no "Mousing around", LOL!!

Thanks Bent!  I try not to take myself too seriously and always have a good time!  As the great philosopher Jimmy Buffet once said: "If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane".  Not sure about riding the scooter all the way to North Carolina (I'm having visions of Dumb and Dumber - LOL) but I'd love to go for a ride in my vert on the Blue Ridge Parkway when the leaves change - if I do I'll be sure to look you up.  And if you're ever in O-Town I'll buy you a Gatorade!  That goes for everyone here - including my Scottish friends - LOL 😀

Gator, you're not being allowed to leave the VFR community gracefully at all so you might as well buy a new one and wear real riding gear to look like a real motorcycle rider.  Oh, that's right people don't do that in Florida.  We would still accept you back I suspect.  Just tell your S. LOL - I kind of figured some folks wouldn't allow me to leave gracefully - but that's the nature of motorcycle forums where there are usually one or two members who think of their bike as an extension of their penis 😀  I'm really gonna miss this place - I still haven't come across a midget with a Napoleon complex to keep me entertained on the scooter forums 😀

I get all that, someone has to give you a hard time and my flack isn't as bad as you know who's is.  My VFR doesn't quite fit my penis but obviously does others.  Not to worry, insecure people are everywhere.  You'll find an unfriendly troll.  😎

Pmsl. Quite simply the VFR was too much bike for you, your level is scooters. No balls.

Ride or drive the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way from Front Royal Va.  It's an awesomely relaxing experience.  The better half and I did it in our vert. once and it's time to do it again.  You don't want a speeding ticket on the PKWY.  It's federal so no parole.....   We found we didn't really want to do 45mph the whole way.  It's a slow beautiful drive.....made for scooters!!  We expect a ride report before June arrives.....

Dress it up any way you want, it was obvious the VFR intimidated you.

I do thank you for some of the laughs you provided the forum though, I remember the derision you got for posting your video saying you were "Almost taken out twice." or some such melodrama and it was simply everyday occurrences for riding.😂

You set your stall out pretty early lol.

LMAO - you truly are delusional!   The VFR is one of the easiest bikes I've ever ridden and extremely confidence inspiring - that's what makes it so great.  In fact I recall riding it across a mile long bridge several times at over 130mph the very first day I owned it - I must have been really intimidated by it 😀. There's a reason why the VFR is ridden mostly by older gents if we can believe the age poll here.  However, I doubt you've ever had yours over 60mph (are you even tall enough to see the speedo?) especially with that obese bearded gf of yours constantly weighting you down in the back - the VFR has a truly fantastic engine but it can't defy the laws of physics 😄

The only time I can remember being intimidated while riding anything was when I rode a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon - one little trip or sneeze and that stupid beast could have plummeted me several thousand feet to my death - now THAT was scary!  The other things that scare me are of course clowns, bearded ladies, and balding midgets - they bring back memories of seeing the circus freaks when I was a kid 😀

The videos spoke for themselves re:skill level; he is why people cringe when you say "I'm going to buy a motorcycle." I'm just glad he didn't stick around long enough to be a statistic.

Good riddance if you ask me.

LOL - another Gator hater 😀  Not to toot my own horn, but my VFR vids have literally tens of thousands of views and are by far the most popular VFR vids on YT with a thumbs up ratio of well over 10 to 1, so when I get a bit of criticism from guys who take themselves way too seriously here it makes me laugh.  In fact, Honda should probably pay me a commission for all the 8th gens I've helped sell 😀. I get messages from folks all the time who say my vids are what inspired them to buy an 8th gen - I just got a message from a guy a couple days ago who bought a new 2015 because of me.  I think that's really cool.

At this point I will slink off into the sunset as history tells me that if I continue to respond to petty comments here that my thread will get locked and I'd hate to see that happen to my goodbye thread.  So take care everyone - you can find me on my YT channel if you would like to reach me.

GatorGreg out 😀

Personally I think its sad that this forum has become just as bad as every other site's comments that I read.   Not sure what that is all about but its a trend that I hope does not continue.  This forum has been an incredible resource with a very non judgemental community of enthusiasts.  Not just VFRs, not just Hondas, not even just motorcycles.   Just like minded gear heads, some with more of a V Four sickness than others.

For 2019, I hope that we get back to that.

Nail has been hit precisely on the head here.😂😂😂

It's statements like that that have made you a laughing stock pmsl.

Gator has a burning need for adulation, for confirmation that anything he does, any item he buys, is the right choice and should be applauded by us all. When that does not transpire he sulks like a 2 year old denied the nipple.

My theory is Gator is one of triplets and he got the bottle.

Not quite sure how many active members at the moment, but around a dozen have posted in this thread. Looks like very few give a toss at your departure.😱

Just wondering how long the scooter will last, skateboard next is my guess.

Greg, I really enjoyed your participation in this family. I wish you only the best and hope you come back once and a while to tickle our collective excitement nerve.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with scooters. Except perhaps that when I wave they are too startled to respond in the time availabe. I only wish I'd had the wherewithall to buy a Honda 50 and meet the nicest people back in '65.

Scoot safely and have fun. In. That. Order. :wheel:

Sorry, but I don't think VFRD is like that now, and the entirely voluntary departure of one member will not make it that way either.  All the best for the New Year!

Ignore the jerks.  They'll never change or add anything of substance here beyond negativity.  Your numbers and likeability speak for themselves. 👍

Some people rub others the wrong way, and it's apparent I wasn't the only one. I'm not gonna reply trying to backtrack and claim I was kidding, either.

Being said, still happy to give him, or anyone for that matter, technical advice for anything VFR related though.
