I've found a pretty decent one at a pretty decent price.  I'm sure this has been asked a bunch of times...but is there anything in particular to look out for?

For the 93? If you run bright light all the time, the R/R can go out as it was pretty poor for a heart sink for these years (90-97).

Stock suspension is poor. Aftermarket shocks are getting harder to find, but still available from Penske, Hyprepro and a few more. Add CBR internals to forks for rebound control and rebuild with gold valves. Personally, I like Hyperpro progressive springs all around.

Rear seat cowls are hard to get, try Dynamo Humm in CN.

Be prepared for "Is it the NEW VFR question if stil clean."

Great looking bike to me. :rocks: Still competitive after all these years.

BTW, Color Rite sells the paint still, NH193, Pearl Crystal White . A little pricy. Same plastic, 90-93.

Doesn't the R/R convert excess electrical capacity to heat, making it desirable to draw more current for lights, electric vest, etc. This would lighten the load on the R/R, no? FWIW, my old '90 managed 130000km without a R/R failure.

I might be buying a '93 myself sometime soon.

GSP,

Seems that those experiencing failure usually have some low speed idling at full lights, which drains the ebattery, causing the R/R to run at full output and frys it due to excessive heat build-up, the usual failure mode as connectors and wires fry.

That's why everone does what they can to take care of heat, from fans to relocation on front lower triple.

I love mine.  Gets a fair share of attention.  And after $1000 of suspension components and brake lines, it performs as well as it looks, now.

Gotta get my hi-mount 2-Bros carbon C5 mounted up, someday.

I think mine still has the original R/R after 11 years and 19,000 miles.  I used JB Weld and heat sink compound to attach a passive CPU heatsink to my R/R.  Hopefully it will hold.  I do like to use my high beams, as the lows are too wimpy to be seen by "high" cagers.

Maybe the longevity of the R/R on my Viffer could be partially explained by the lack of time spent idling in the heat.

Great guide!  Thanks for the link.

I have an 02 and my wife an 01.  Has anyone ridden either of these as well that could compare the 93 with?

By the way, what is the asking price?

I paid $3200 for mine with 16,500 miles on it.  It hadn't been used hard, though it had experienced a garage tip-over that lightly scratched the right fairing and bent the rear brake lever a tad.  Tires had to go.  Other than that it was ready to ride.

Here in Colorado, and especially around Boulder, I think that prices are higher than most other places in the country for used motorcycles.  Just curious what the white 93 is selling for elsewhere.

1993 HONDA VFR750F. 17,900 mi., pearl white, starts on the first press of the button everytime, new fork seals and clutch fluid, never wrecked, extra clean. $2,800.

Sweeeet.  :D  Not quite pocket change, but sounds good to me. I've already got 2 bikes but that sounds tempting.

Score!  Buy it.

Care to sell the seat cowl to me?

At $2800 you have to look out for other buyers... :goof:

ESPECIALLY if it was a factory '93 R-model in pearl white, which of course would make it the only one on the planet.  :smash:

Wait a minute. Somethings fishy here - never wrecked but fairing decals have been replaced ? Maybe never wrecked by the current owner, or never wrecked after eating blue cheese on a sunday...yadda yadda yadda. A closer inspection and title search will yield the truth.

Yep......I have a pristine Pearl White 93.......That pic is not original from what I can see the decals are not right.the original wheels are powder coated white.....not sure on those in the pic.
look for scrapes, frame marks and marks by the pegs where it may have been dropped. price is cheap......all original, pristine ones with about 24,000 miles go for 3500.00 to 4000.00.
having said that you can still get all the fairing pieces from honda to restore it back if its not original. The pieces honda sells come with the decals on them. Pricey though.....you may spend 2000.00 in plastic to replace it all.......93's can run hot at times, look for signs of overheating......make sure the temp gauge works......
Good Luck if you get it...

I'll second the recommendation for a title search, and if possible for an insurance claim search (not sure where this bike is, but I know here in BC you can do a search for past claim history... it can be very revealing).

To be fair to the seller, though, stickers are a cheap way to customize your ride, and repainting wheels isn't particularly difficult.  But those grey rims look a lot like the grey rims on my Grey '96 VFR.  Maybe he swapped them with someone?  They're probably physically identical anyway.

Comes with solo cowl and aftermarket windscreen (looks dark tinted to me, I think the stock one was clear), too.  Sweet.

I noticed the wheel color immediately, as well.  I assumed that they were 1991-92 gold wheels in a black and white photograph.  It is definitely a Gen-3 8-spoker rear, so it wouldn't have come off of a '94+.

I am the third owner of my 93, and the VFR decal on the lower side fairings was removed prior to my getting the bike.  I actually prefer it.  I still have the clearcoat-covered Honda wing on the tank and Honda across the bottom of the side cowls.

Good idea for an insurance search.  I should have done that.  I guess I'm too trusting.  I just test rode it with no hands to see if there was tracking or head shake issues.  :smash:

Course if they don't report it or make a claim, that won't help. Still good to do the close inspection yourself.  :D

If you are buying it as collector you probably will be dissapointed.
If you are looking for a really Fun ride just make sure it is safe. It looks like a nice bike to me. The price range is right as long as you don't have to replace the tires right away. For piece of mind I would get a shop manual and change out all the fliuds, check the tourque on the bolts. Look for cracks. Make sure it goes straight, And has good rubber. Good Luck

For what it's worth I can give you a similar deal on a Pearl White, I'm in Chicago. Bike has been well-cared for with 36k miles, going over it this winter to make sure it is in top shape for the start of the season.
