Any fellow '99 owners can help me with understanding key blanks?

Hey guys, when I bought my '99 (me being the third owner) it didn't come with a spare. I've been looking for an OEM key blank (with the Honda logo and everything) so that I can go to a locksmith and get a spare made. Partzilla is telling me that 35121-KW3-771 is the key blank for my bike, but it looks much shorter than my normal key. I believe that 35121-MN9-611 is the right one, but I just wanted to check with you guys to be sure that the spare isn't supposed to be shorter or something. Also, another question, the key code is the 3-digit alphanumeric code under the gas cap right? Mine follows the format of [number][letter][letter]

35121-MN9-611 is the correct part number. I just bought one from WeBike in Japan , I can confirm it works/fits perfectly. I also believe if you dismantle the helmet lock you can find the 3-digit key code there too.

Out of curiosity, can any key cutter around town cut these, or do I need to go somewhere special?

Any real key cutter / locksmith can (should be able to) do it by the number. 

Just had a spare key cut for the 2001.

Locksmith provided the blank and copied my key, which was not oem, for $10.

Said that copying it from the key code, which I had, would be $40 using the same blank. Guess its more involved for the same result.

My experience is the same as Captain & FromMaine. My 2003 RC came with one original key and one that the PO had made at his local hardware store. The hardware store key actually works a little bit better!

For ‘95 my local charged $60 to cut from code, works on/off fine but won’t operate steering lock plunger feature of OEM switch. Tried an “online” cutter service from Germany first($25), waited 2 months for it & got a useless result(sent code & pics, etc.)

Huh, interesting. So it looks like my hunch that the spare key is short was correct. Good to know that they would both work though.
