Just saw the announcement that Honda is recalling 40k motorcycles for fuel pump impeller defect. If you own a seventh gen, you may want to check it out. Sorry, I didn't grab the link but I'm sure it will be out there.

Strange the recall is listed on the NHTSA recall site, but not on Honda’s recall site.  Maybe this is Honda's way of saying they’re not fixing it.

#5

Potentially 1% of the 40k bikes involved in the recall affected the notice says.

I had been having a challenge with my bike stalling periodically, I just checked with Honda and mine is covered under the recall, it will be interesting to see if that resloves the issue.

I got the letter.  I just can't trust a dealer tech to take apart my bike.  So, I guess I won't be getting it inspected.

Honestly I'm a little worried about that too.  Maybe I will take the plastic off before taking it up there, I don't know.

I absolutely would.  All parties involved will (should) appreciate it.

guess i missed it, so what was the recall problem ?

#11

Failing fuel pump impellers, bad material/manufacturing

The likelihood that something is wrong appears to be very small, but they have to pull the pump to see if there is an issue.

I got my notice last week, but like above, my local dealer is not to be trusted. A few years back one of the employees murdered another employee during business hours, and then hid the body up in the hills where I ride.

I will most likely set up an appointment down south somewhere, as they have much better reviews...

Getting murdered when you drop your motorcycle off would suck.

A homeless encampment started a fire and burned down my local Honda dealer.

Shit,  Sounds like I got out of the biz with my life, not just my sanity.

Damn, I just got the letter too.  My bike is in Phoenix for a few months.  Anybody know a reputable Honda dealer there?

#18

I'll be extremely surprised if anyone who gets their pump inspected legitimately needs to have it replaced.  Think about it.  Out of ~40k bikes Honda estimates the number of bikes potentially affected as around 300 units.

I have a late bike, 2013 so I'm thinking I'm good...

I have the same issue.  Mine started after the valve adjustment thought.  Maybe it is the fuel pump.

What i found on mine was I had bought my 2010 DTC in 08/2024 with 8K miles on it, here's what I found, the stalling was caused by two separate issues, one was because the bike had set for a year plus, it's injectors were varnished up causing it to run on the lean side, it especially showed up at idle when cold and would die once after firing it up cold, second issue was the DCT needs to be calibrated occasionally and it was out of spec, what was happening was at low speed under 30mph it would go to change gears and it would stall, it would always fire right back up but was dangerous when in traffic, to solve the problem I did a calibration on the DTC and then ran a 12oz bottle of Techron complete fuel system cleaner through it, I took it out on the  freeway and opened it up a couple of times to flush the injectors and haven't had an issue with it since, also with the calibration it smoothed out the shifts considerably.

Regards,

Kent
