So I managed to get a pretty good deal on a rear seat cowl for my '95, but in looking at the manual and the mounting points, I'm noticing that the cowl is bolted in while on the bike, and that seems like it would prevent the seat from being removed. I use the underseat storage all the time (I keep a disk lock under there). So will having the cowl on prevent me from being able to easily use this storage? Should I find another place to store the lock? Or am I just missing something?

You are correct I just just changed the bolts to 5mm 316 stainless steel couter sunk and carry an allen key in my jacket pocket.
Having said that the quick release bolts are a great idea - I just like a higher degree of security.

Just make sure that you have some kind of spacer on the bolt, if you go the bolt route, so that you don't crack the fairing when you tighten it (rubber won't do). It's easy to crack as it is.
well i have a 95 VFR with the same situation with the seat cowl. I use a magic hat #9 beer bottle opener thats on my spare keychain as a screwdriver for the "franken bolts"...takes only about 30 seconds to remove the cowl and get under my seat for storage. give it a try
p.s. what kind of deal did you get for the cowl...just curious. I hope you werent that guy on ebay who got suckered into paying $120+shipping a few weeks ago.

yeah i know i have bought 2 from ebay...both being around $60 or so and i emailed the guy and suggested he post a more realistic price for the cowl. all i got was a threat he was going to report me to the EBAY police for harrassment. What a dork!!

No, I won it on ebay for $66+shipping. Wasn't going to pay much more than that, but I guess I got lucky anyway.
