Anyone upgrade from a Pro Shift kit to inclued a Star?
I have the older Pro Shift Kit in my 97 and have for years with no problems and have been told by Factory Pro we can purchase just the Star part of the kit to upgrade useing my older Pro Shift kit parts for even better shifts.
i put the kit in mine ,,pretty easy just follow the directions , tedious job but very do-able just take your time pull the parts in order and put them back i order

their site doesn't show a star kit for the 4th gen VFRs, just a regular shift kit - is it just a mistake on their part?

I'm in the same boat as you. I have the spring and detent arm but not the new star cam. You say they will sell that seperately? Did they quote you a price?
Factory Pro took my order for a Gen 4 Star monday and the shipping guy checked the order before it was going to be sent to me and he noticed/knew the Gen 4 VFR star is close but differnt then the Gen 5's that they do have Stars for. They called me up to give me the bad news and how it was a mistake on thier part...but do have a stock of Stars ready to make fit on the Gen 4's and will let me know when they modify them.
I installed it in my 1998 and it works great, just make sure you have a good 1/2" drive hex socket so you can remove the old star (thanks again for you help on this Trace (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/beer.gif) ), I found out the hard way that you can remove it with just the "bent style" allen keys. Oh and make sure you have some Loc-tight too. The best thing about the upgrade is that it up shifts much better and that you can feel neutral engage with out having to look at the light on the dash board.
I called Lee @ Factory Pro today asking for a ETA on the Star's being available for the 94-97's. He said he will try to get after his mach shop to get moving on them...but if anyone one else is interested best to call him so he can push to get them done some time soon with the possibility of selling a couple rite away. Florida, Sep 3 2006, 11:37 PM Improvement over the factory shift is fairly subtle. A little softer and smooter. Not sure I can recommend it to anyone who is looking for a toggle-switch-like "click, click" or "snickety, snick" (to use some of the scientific terms I've seen in forum posts). Perhaps the sixth-gen shift is simply very good to begin with.
I'd like to rationalize the cost by saying its great. However, I don't think I would do it if I knew beforehand what I know now.
I don't agree. Knowing what I do now, the next time I buy a Honda, I'd fit one as soon as I bought it. While it's expensive for what it is, I have no regrets whatsoever about it. The shifts are more positive and precise, and feel much better. I used to get lots of missed shifts, now I get almost none (except where I give the shifter such a tentative dab between first and second that it mush think I'm after neutral.
