Exhaust Pipe

So here is my plan, I am getting a pipe off of e-bay and I plan to get rid of the muffler/pipe on my 90vfr and have someone weld in the nessesary pipes to make everything fit, now Im sure somebody out there has done this so im wondering if there are anythings to look out for or any helpfull hints and of course if there are anydraw backs to doing this other than the fact it would probably quite loud. I have been looking for the past year for an exhaust and havent found anything for this bike that is reasonably priced(for under 200).
Any info would be greatly appriciated.

So you are saying that you are going to put a piece of pipe in place of where the muffler was located? No muffler at all? unsure.gif

I recently revamped the exhaust on my 93, check out the thread here. You'll find 2 sound clips that I've posted (one is no can and one is w/2Bros) along with pics.

I was lucky to find a full stock exhaust from a 4th gen; using that I put the 2 Bros on with no problems. With welding I suppose anything can be done. My only suggestion would be to find a midpipe made for your bike and have your friend fit that to your new pipe. BTW, what exhaust can are you going with?

Yes I plan to bypass the muffler all together so it would be like a full header, this is my concern. Do these bikes need the back pressure created by the muffler if there is any, or would it be wiser to connect it after the muffler. The exhaust that I have comming is a Scorpion can.

Are you tring to go with an open header system (straight pipes)?

Are you just going to pull the stock can off and replace with the scorpion that you purchased?

If you are putting on the scorpion inplace of the stock can, you will still have a muffler. I guess what I am saying, is that you won't be bypassing the muffler, just replacing it with a less restrictive one. I think you are confusing the collector for the muffler, the only muffler is the can on the side of the bike. The collector is just the 4-1 portion of the exhaust. On your bike isn't a true collector but functions the same, 4 pipes come into one box, and 1 larger pipe comes out.

Yes your right the collector wasnt sure of the name, So the question is would it be better to just replace the pipe portion which would probably be easier or bypass the the collector alltogether, and would there be any problems with back pressure by removing it. I am not really looking for performance I would just like a little more noise(of course performance wouldnt hurt)

The collector really isn't taking any noise away. However if you look at a true 4-1, they use more of a clover leaf shaped collector rather than the box approach. I wouldn't try to rid the bike of the OEM collector unless you go to a full aftermarket headder. In side the collector is vast emptyness, so there is really nothing that you are by-passing. My suggestion is to simply replace the can and fabricate your own midpipe (from collector outlet to the inlet of the can).

Well thanks for the responce, that is pretty much the answere I was looking for, my initial thought was to get rid of the collector but since it realy doesnt do a whole lot, it would be much easier to go with can and mid pipe. I will post pics and sound when I get it all together.

Well I just got my pipe, it looks great so I was going to take the lower fairing off and see what its going to take to put this thing on. Well i probably should of looked at it befor I got the pipe. What the Hell kind of exhaust is that thing it looks like an octapuss or something, this really puts a damper on my plans. Excuse my ignorance but I never really got a chance to go over the bike like I normally would(Wife just had Twins) so I guess just the pipe is going on. Now where do I find the proper flange to connect the mid pipe to the cat.
