Catless Headers

Just curious if there is a place that can remove the cats from the headers and do a good job with it. I would like to get them removed and then have the pipes ceramic coated.

Cut them open and remove the catalyst, then have someone weld them back up for you before sending them off to Jet Hot coating. Check Trace's how to...

Well, I could do that but I had much rather have the entire cat removed and replaced with straight pipe. The cat is ugly, and being that I just bought that power commander I would like to take more advantage of it.

You must have taken one too many punches (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif) ...no one makes one.

I am taking my exhaust to a welding shop tomorrow to see if they can do this. I'll let youknow what I find. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)

No one makes one? What do you mean? All that would be needed is a short peice of pipe to go where the cats used to be. Any stainless steel pipe that is the correct diameter would work. I think... I don't know that this just just all my "therory". (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif)

Well unless all 4 pipes converge into the cat. Then that maybe a problem. I havnt actually taken a good look at it. Im at work right now and im just sitting here brain storming.

No can do. It's just not that simple. Where the two go into the cat (not four), it's not a round pipe at all. It's very "manufactured" to fit where it does and have a cat in it. And....you would NEVER be able to get the outlet to the precise point where it meets your can. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would have to be performed on the bike by a good header maker so that everything matches up...AND so you don't somehow warp the four snakes as they run up to the heads. Now THAT would be a nightmare!!

Both mq105 and I sawed the bottom of our cats open, bashed the guts out (that step is not very easy), welded it back up. I sent mine to JetHot, but his stainless pipes looked okay afterwards and he just ran them as is.

However, I'll soon be selling MY gutted, Jetted 2000 pipes (have '99 pipes going on once they're Jetted in a week or two) Anyone interested?

The '99 header is about $400 from them. There was a thread on here earlier today about 2 companies that make full catless headers. Or grab that eBay left side exit that was just posted and get it to fit. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)
