First of all, I recently purchased a GSXR 750. However, I keep actively looking at this forum as a member and like it, so I am going to ask this question of the members. I am looking for a bit higher riding position. The problem is not my upper body, but my neck. It gets tired and cramped, so sell the bike or change the riding position.
Wanting to save money and time, I looked for options for raising my bars. I found a potentially slick setup. The convertibars can be viewed at: http://www.convertibars.com. Cost for my bike is approximately $400.00. Not the cheapest, howeve it appears to be the best solution.
I've got them on my bike and I like them. I only spent $300 on my kit though since I didn't get any extras (longer brake/clutch/throttle lines).
I originally had helibars on the bike and those were just fine. The only reason I went with Convertibars was because I swapped an RC51 front end on my bike (that reminds me, I should finish my blog about that) and I needed a new set of bars. Installing is simple. The only thing you need to do is drill the bars for the switchgears since they don't come predrilled.
Like Chris said, Helibars are another option and quite a bit cheaper. Your other option for the kinda of rise you're talking about are a handlebar conversion kit, like LSL handlebars.
I installed a set on McClouds VFR, good quality and fit. Biggest problem seem to be with lines and cables! Butch ordered it all, but the failed to send the longer lines and that made it a major PIA and w/o longer lines and cables you can't take advantage of full movement possible.
Normally you remove the top triple clamp and install the fork clamps under the triple clamp, then you can drop the bars down into the "racer" mode. I assume you have been to the Convertibars site? They have a video to watch on there that might interest you.
you might need to get longer lines for your brakes. when i got my bike they where already put on and she said she had to get longer lines in. but she got them done at a dealership and probably just wanted to charge her more.
Yes, if you want to be able to bring the bars back and up into the "touring" position, longer hydraulic lines will need to be bought and longer throttle cables and choke cable will need to be made or bought. I found a local shop that has the ability to make cables to any size you want.
convertibars are on mine they are pretty cool i ordered my bits seperately because i have a different front ,my front brakes are a custom length but i really like them ,so you if you want adjustable bars the this is th move ,you have a gixxer ,they have kits for gixxer so you are definately covered ,i hope this helps.
I just won an Ebay auction for a set of Yam R-1 Convertibars. The 50mm clamps will fit the RC51 forks going on STBR this winter.
After winning the auction I ordered a set of clamps to fit the VFR forks from Convertibars. I figure I'll be able to mess with the riding position a bit, within the confines of the stock hoses, cables and wiring, before I do the fork switch.
My "Ol' Geezer" neck will enjoy about 1" up and 1" back from stock.
Thanks Darth! Your installation looks clean. I did not figure it would be too hard to modify. I have all the tools and they do have a kit for the 07 GSXR-750.
From the feedback I have received I believe this is the best option. My significant other may eventually ride the bike as well, so this appears to be the best option.
However, I will check out the LSL bars you suggested.

Installation?! :goofy: Uh, no. That just a picture I shamelessly linked over from the convertibar site. But, you're welcome nonetheless.
As fate would have it, the Ebay convertibars for the Yam R1 and the clamps I ordered from convertibar to fit the VFR arrived at the same time. The install took a couple of hours. The end result gives me about 1 1/4" more rise and about 1 1/2" back from stock. There is also less downward angle on the bars. This is about the limits without getting longer hoses and throttle cables...there is plenty of wiring from the switchgear.
The hose end locating lugs on the clutch and brake master cylinders were removed to allow positioning of the hoses. The hose for the clutch was rerouted which required disconnection from the master cylinder. The brake master cylinder was fished around the throttle cables and switch wiring, but did not require hose disconnection. I ground both of the locating pins off the switch cases rather than mess with drilling the bars.
As soon as the hairspray dries I'll give it a test ride.

I hope you didn't install them as shown in the picture because the bars are on the wrong way. :D
