My gas mileage had gotten atrocious over the past few months. It had went from about 174 miles a tank to 134 miles a tank with the PC on. It was also hard to start when it was cold out side, and would "surge" alot above 6K till it got completely warmed up. You could also smell gas as it was at idle.
Now that I have it back stock again my gas mileage has went back up (im back up to about 200 miles to a tank) and it starts on the first crank. Even last night when I left work it was 28 degrees outside it started on the first push of the button. When the PC was on it that would have taken at least three tries maybe more before it would start. Its also smooth all the way through the power band when the bike is still cold. I do try keep the RPM's below 6k until its completely warm though.
I did lose some power however. My ass dyno tells me I lost a few horse power by taking it off. The engine seems to sound different as well. I do plan to put it back on, but only when I get the time to have a custom map made for it. Probably sometime this summer.
As mentioned in your custom map thread, I think you have a faulty PCII/III and that is what is causing your changes and problems. It's very common and if you bought it new they will repair or replace it if you send it back with your complaints. That's why I was suggesting that you NOT have a custom map made until the PC was repaired or replaced. I had two bike failures at track days and both times were faulty PC's. These things screw up all the time! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/dry.gif)
Call Dyno Jet while you have it off and can send it back! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)

I made a thread about this before? I'll have to see if I can find it. Sorry, I tend to have a short attention span. lol Thanks!
I'm curious, did you actually remove the Power Commander? Or just unplug it from the EFI harness?
I have a 98 with a PCIII, installed the only map I could find on this site, that was for some slip on that's not the same model as I have. One of the things I hoped the PCIII would solve was a bad off-idle lurch, but that is still there. Over all, I can't say the bike seems much different than it did before, but I don't have much faith in the ass-dyno and haven't paid much attention to mileage. I'll probably get a custom map done some time, or maybe fiddle with it myself, though I don't have a Windows computer anymore, so I don't think I can run the software.

Yes, recheck your old thread and look at my post on the bottom and you'll see that this is exactly what I mentioned happened to me and what I did about it (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/idea3.gif)
I did a search here but didn't want to start a thread on this. Please forgive me if this is a dumb question. I couldn't find the answer on Dynojet's site either.
I'm ready to install the PCIII I bought last year but I'm wondering if it's OK to keep it hooked up while a battery tender is hooked up to my bike during the winter months. Does anyone know if you have to unhook the PCIII anytime to attach a battery tender while storing the bike? I'm worried the tender could somehow short out or overheat the PCIII, or are my fears unfounded?
Or I could just wait 'til spring to hook up the PCIII. It's not like it hasn't been sitting around for months anyway.

I can't say I have a positive answer, but you really shouldn't have any worries. I don't have the answer because I pull my battery, every winter. (JUST in case it were to boil over or some goofy stuff, while charging). I'm just avoiding the slimmest chance of a mess to clean up. (But that's just me).

I concur, have had two PCIII go bad on two different bikes.

Holy Cow I was expecting the thread to me an old thread but that was dated just last month. But I do remember that thread now that I read it again. I never got the map made obviously. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif)
I'll do that though before I get a new map made. Then again, I may forget again and there maybe a new thread in another month about how I got a new map created and it still runs bad. lol. But hopefully after getting reminded twice I'll remember now.

It will not hurt it, the power circuit is broke from the PC when the bike is not running. I have a PC on two bikes and use a battery tender on both with no probs what so ever.

Hey Club, I don't know what year your bike is, but if you have not disconnected the O2's and installed O2 eliminators I would try that. A matter of fact try it withoug the PC and there is a good chance your stumble will disappear and your bike will run just as well as with the PC.
I took my PC2 off of my bike almost as soon as i bought it. The previous owner had installed it and it ran fine when I bought it, but shortly thereafter it started to surge and then even cut-out at lower rpm. So asking some of the guys here, the process of elimination led to the pc and as soon as I took it out the bike ran perfect. So I am all done with PC's the bike runs awesome without it.
