I was in Honda of Jax, getting a price quote on sprockets and chain. They were having computer issues, so I started looking around. A sales guy walks up and I tell him, I'm just looking, waiting on a quote. Asks me what I have and I tell him an 02 Interceptor. He's like, oh yeah, you like the one coming in '08? I think right there I should have just smiled at him as if he were a small child and walked away. But I just lean in, being interested. Hell, what else have I to do while I wait? :goofy:
So, anyway, I say, I was not aware that they were putting a new one out this year. He's like, Oh yeah, it looks hot, on and on. Another guy comes up, listens for a second and then adds, yeah, it's gonna be a liter bike! At which point, I nod and smile and as I walk away, say, yeah, I can't wait....
So, the news travels down hill....
Beginning to think that it's time we all let go. We must let the healing begin....
uh, a liter is 1000 cubic centimeters(cc)
I lernt that in nursing school :goofy:
anything less than that is by definition NOT a LITER
It's lighter, but not liter.
I'm sure you knew that...I was just spelling out the obvious.
I am good at that.

Of course I know there is an 08 model and that it's the same as the 02. My point was that the dealer personel seem to think that there is an all new one coming out in "08." I should have walked away because the 08s were already ON THE floor. I was standing next to a grey 08. Just thought it was funny.

It's fun when you know more than the salesmen (saleskids) on their products, huh? I liked how you acted quite interested with the leaning in bit, I can just see the interaction in my head! LOL
Not to jack the thread, but I find when a salesman asked what I ride and I respond with a "VFR", they usually nod very approvingly, knowing that you have a kick-ass bike, and they probably aren't going to be very successful trying to sell you something else unless you say that you are ready to buy!
People sometimes are quick to defend salespeople about stuff like this, saying that at multi-line bike dealers it's hard to memorize details about so many models.
BS. I worked in sales at a large bicycle shop that handled Schwinn, Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Fisher, LeMond and Serotta, as well as kids bikes and some exercise equipment. I knew many details about most bikes in the shop, from price points to parts lines to colors offered.
Considering most motorcycles don't change that much from year to year (and the ones that do are mostly just the sportbikes) AND how much info there is on the 'net, there is no excuse for NOT knowing your product lines.

Meh, what do I know? I just bought my bike because it was black, had a higher price point than most of the other ones there, had ABS, and made the same power as a 600 costing 1/3rd less.

I've had a different experience. Usually when I go into the stealership, I'll be looking at a row of sportbikes. The sales guy will come up to me and ask what I ride. I'll say a VFR. I usually get something like this: "Oh a cuiser, but your thinking of switching to a sportbike?"
For Real.
Or better yet when I'm looking at a 600 and the sales guy saw me pull up on my bike. He says, "You don't want another 600, you should upgrade". Sweet dude. How many injectors does this bike right here have? 4, oh, wrong answer. One more strike and you're out? You mean if I buy a bike out of state and pay cash for it I do have to pay sales tax in Arizona? Ehhh. That's three you're OUTTA HERE.....

I bet you are having a hard time in a crowded bar, signaling to the bartender you want 5 Grand Marnier cocktails eh?
oh man! that was great dutchy.. oooohh ,i can hardly breath. :P :D
and i am go out later too! bar hopping with a pal.. good thing we have a driver ..
due to the fact i will star with 5 just to celibrate the hand above! :P
The only thing that takes the place of stupid is ugly
Except in the case that they are both ugly and stupid.
When I go into a shop and a kid comes up and starts talking I give him about one minute to say something stupid. If he doesn't then I will continue to talk to him/her.
If they do say something stupid then in a semi polite way I put them in their place.
Or, if they are really stupid I just walk away cause you can't talk logically to STUPID.

good story and a great laugh - stealership - funny that's exactly the way I feel when I walk into those places. I would have gone for the dumb brunette act and played the tool for awhile - cheap entertainment while waiting.
