Rear Wheel Nut Torque - Clymer?

Last weekend I put new tires on the bike (well, used tires from a friend, who had tires with 80% of the tread still on), using my Clymer manual as my guide. When we were installing the rear wheel, the book says (pg. 439) "Tighten the rear wheel nuts to the torque specifications listed in Table 1"

The thing is, table one at the end of the chapter says:

Rear wheel nuts: 35(Nm) / 25 (ft.-lb.) (this is on page 471)

But if you look at table one at the beginning of the book it says:

Rear wheel nuts: 110 (Nm) / 80 (ft.-lb.) (this is on page IX)


We looked all over and didn't find any other information, so we figured that with 4 nuts at
25 ft.-lb each, was 100, which is close to 80. Yeah, I know, but it's the best we could figure.

We set the torque wrench to 25, tightened up the nuts and so far, so good.

Anyone know which table is right? Am I reading something wrong here?

That's 80 ft lbs EACH

2nd question is:
- have I done any damage to the nuts / wheel riding at 25 ft lbs per nut? (we did this on Saturday, I've ridden
every day running errands since)

I'll head back to my friend's place tomorrow and re-torque these.

I would say most likely not, even 25ft lbs is more than hand tight. Its not the nuts you'll cause damage too, it will the bolt studs. Easy way to check is to pull the wheel off and look at the studs, spin the lug nuts on by hand with the wheel off and if they run smooth all the way to bottoming out you should be ok. Check the out side of the lug nut for damage and inside the rim around the bolt holes, look for anything out of the normal. Before removing the rear wheel put the bike on the centre stand and try to twist the rear wheel from side to side, if it moves than you may have done some damage, if everything is still nice and snug, you should be ok.

Also check that the studs are still a tight fit in the axle flange.
