Old 1000cc V4 Rumour...

...Courtesy of today's Motor Cycle News (MCN to me, not to you):

"Race technology for next generation VFR"

MCN claims in print (not yet online, however) that the new VFR will be a V5 and the 2009-model will debut in time for Honda's 60th anniversary on 24 September 2008. The frame will be radically different from current and will be in two pieces bolted to the front and back of the engine, and the exhaust will collect underneath (so no more underseats). The displacement will be "in the region of 1000cc" and will "feature" chain-driven cams... The bike will also have optional "Combined ABS" brakes, keeping with Honda's stated goal of incorporating ABS on all of its bikes in the future, and may get a double-clutch gearbox, which would allow for pushbutton shifting... Other changes include a front-mounted radiator and side air intakes--no mention of VTEC, grazie dio...

Okay, we all know the british MCN stands for "more crap than news", and only a few months ago the same authoritative source was predicting a V4 VFR, but they've gone so far in this article (written by Ben Purvis) as to provide certain quotes from Yoshiteru Kinoshita, the Honda R&D engineer allegedly in charge of the new VFR's development. I dunno... It is possibly a bad sign that the article is accompanied by a "VFR Timeline" of previous models that makes several howling mistakes (they seem to have found a 12bhp power boost in 1992, when only the suspension was tweaked, and they screwed up the model years supposedly relating to when other changes were introduced...).

The VFR will be dropped or updated in 2009, but either way I'm not bothered. I'm perfectly happy with my 05 and these rumours are getting very boring.

This will be the new RVF, not VFR.

They need to find a use for that now obsolete RC211 990cc V-5 and sense it's no longer used in Moto GP it like the engine in the $72k Super Duc can be sold in production bikes. :fing02:

I'm not sure at all about V4 or V5 and regarding the final size of the engine.
I've just ridden on an italian magazine that what is sure at the moment is only one thing: "the new VFR will be lighter".
Honda came up to this decision thanks to the results of one statistic made in Europe last year (hundred of VFR's owners were involved in it).

Since when did Shaq become a Test Rider for Honda

i like the 2009 prototype so when does it come out , might have to go down to local bike shop and pre order one before the rush starts,because when they are released they will be on back order for months :idea3: :laugh:

I found this press release on a fax machine at my local Honda dealership.
