After reading these forums I decided I just had to have a VFR . . after running a VTR1000F for four years and loving it, thought I'd double my fun.
I had a run on a new VTech courtesy of local Honda dealer. Quite impressed but he wouldn't give me what I thought my VTR was worth, so went away to think.
Whilst thinking, stumbled across a '98 with only 8000mls on it. This meant I could keep VTR and test VFR water at same time.
I've had it for a couple of months now and after about 2000mls of enjoyable riding I've started to notice when travelling through towns in traffic a lot of heat is building under front of seat, both sides.
Coolant temp goes as far as 104 then drops back to araound 80 when back up to speed again, which I'm thinking is normal.
I wouldn't describe the feeling in my thighs as painfull but more like irritating and their temperature does not drop down as quick as the coolant when back up to speed!
Have tried riding legs out but its slowing me down!
Am I just being a wuss or is this a known issue.
Thought about getting some heat resistant material to put between rear cylinders and seat/frame area. Has anyone tried this?
Wonder if this is having a bearing on the RR's cooking?
Completely normal - my 01 gets pretty hot in the same area. Try touching the right frame rail after a ride and see how hot that gets! I've just accepted it and moved on.
Have fun on your 5th gen. I know I am!! biggrin.gif
Besides the ridiculous lack of clothing.....that bike has really been lowered......much more than mine......... unsure.gif
It looks like a better fit for you skuuter... I think you look good in tight shorts and a pink top. By the way, how did you get your legs to look so good.... goofy.gif
Normal on the warm legs, wait until December you will love it. BTW kudos on your superior intelligence 2 bikes are better than 1 and I think you will enjoy the 5th gen, at 8k miles it is not even broken in. The guys and gals in this group are the best and you will find out more than you thought possible about your viffer here. As for the girl I have mixed emotions... I know she should have more clothes on for safety sake, but the guy in me says who am I to tell her what to do.

ah, the fifth generation. The fastest of them all, good choice. Even though I have deduced by your usage of the very correct word "Whilst" that you are from the UK and your bike is reading celcius, it still seems that your temp readings are lower that mine and most others, and the leg cooker is something you dont notice so much (try riding a Buell)
also, us fifth genners DO have a naca(ish) duct, so enough of that nonsense.
this bike of yours,........tell me that it came flat black..............BECAUSE YOU DIDNT POST A PICTURE so untill I see it, it is flat black in my universe.
I have an 06 and find the heat very acceptible, but in 100 degree heat with polyester dress pants I do feel some heat , Normally I wear cotton pants and no issue.
Not sure on the 5th but the 6th has a rubber diapham over top the of the rear cylinder which aides with blocking heat coming through that seat to tank juncture.
