I moved from NY to TN, and my VFR insurance is skyrocketing! More than double! Who do you TN guys use down here? I'm getting quotes over $1000/year. I was paying $538/year in NY. I'm sure this has been beat to death, but I couldnt find any helpful posts. I'm in the Chattanooga area if that helps.
Insurance Costs?!? Who Do I Use?

I use Dairyland Insurance, a motorcycle insurance division of Sentry Insurance. $155/yr. for both of my VFRs, though this is liability coverage only. They have good customer service.
Try:
Progressive
Geico
Note also that longer riding seasons = higher insurance premiums....I know when I lived in UT they told me it was lower yearly because they assumed limited use in winter.

I use State Farm because their customer service is excellent. They never give me a hassle on a claim. They will generally turn a blind eye to the occasional Performance Award. They don't jack your rates every time you make a claim.
They did raise my wifes premium when she got a speeding ticket, a warning and totaled a brand new car, all within 90 days. (Gotta love a mid-life crisis  )
Oh, and their rates are reasonable too. $480 a year for Full Coverage. I'm 40 ish knocks some off. An MSF safety course knocks a bunch off.
Their rates are based on your driving record and the # CC's. Multi-line discounts help. (I have my house insured with them)
I use Jeff Johnson in Ooltewah on Snow Hill Rd. PM me if you want his number (and don't feel like looking it up)
In my 20's I used GEICO. Reasonable rates. Filed a claim when a lady hit me in a parking lot. They paid quickly and almost immediately doubled my rates. Customer Service was crap but the agent was Smokin' Hot

did you shop around to see which company offers the lowest. Allstate and Geico all want an arm and a leg for my dads and my bikes, but progressive is 1/3 of their prices for the same coverage.

Progressive and Geico, personally think the premiums are going straight to advertisement. Good point on the longer riding season. Try State Farm, have nothing but good things to say about them and they rate by the number of CC's on your bike.
Maybe they hate yankees?

I'm using Progressive right now. $120 per year or something like that. Liability only, though.
I have found that Geico is garbage when you need them. In MD, I had a rate increase from when I lived in Virginia, but I am still only paying 217 bucks a year for full coverage. (41, married, kids, own a house, multi vehicle discount).
Plus-I haveny had a moving violation since 1988.

Thanks for all the input. I checked out all of the above mentioned companies, and found the lowest rate through E-Surance (go figure, since thats who I have my auto policies written through) At any rate im still dissapointed at $740/year, but its still ALOT less than what I was seeing through other companies....one quoted me $2335!!!!!!! Can you imagine?!? And yes, some do not like Yankees

I never found anyone cheaper than AAA here in California - $285.00 full coverage 250 deductible - 97 vfr
Note progressive will give you crazy quotes online if you put in a new or false address! Apparently if they can't verify the information the prices go nuts. When I bought my VFR I was putting in a fake address and getting quotes of $1000 or more and when I put in the correct info if was just over $200.
Not sure about any of the other online quotes.

+1 to State Farm in TN. Way less than $400 a year for full coverage.

The agent said 'basically, this just means we don't want your mc business, stick with State Farm'. At $450/year, ok.
eSurance was half the cost of Progressive for me. I told my friend about them and he saved half off of his. Give them a ring and report back.
State Farm - full coverage, 27 y/o, no tickets
Washington State
07 VFR

Have you checked out Markel? They only insure motorcycles, ATVs, etc. I can't attest to their claims process (knock on wood)...but they've always been cheaper than the other companies.
Good luck.

I'm in Chattanooga and I'm with Progressive. They do a little something extra for MSF instructors too, which helps me. All my bikes are paid for, so I've just run liability for years. 40 yrs old, no tickets on license, last accident claim was 2001, $120/year.
When I moved here, I had Farm Bureau of Indiana, when I switched to Farm Bureau of TN they would not cover my motorcycles... so that's when I shopped and went to Progressive.
After seeing these comments, I might wanna check out E-surrance?

I live in Knoxville, TN and use Progressive. Even with fairly high limits and a $250 deductible and I only pay $249 per year, if paid in a lump sum. But it's only $289 if broken up, so it's still not that bad...
Progressive......... $72/yr liability only, but their F/C rates are in the ball park as well..... check 'em out....
