Sheesh you boys are such die-hards. First it was you never being able to let go of the gear driven cams, now it's all the new stuff on the 1200.
You sound like a bunch of old men with their pants up past they shoulders, bleating about "the good old days" while playing checkers or something.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my aversion to all of Honda's new tech in this bike, as well as recent VFRs, is that they don't do anything to improve performance. They just add complexity, weight, and stuff to go wrong. Honda can't even produce a cam chain tensioner that lasts, or a wire harness that doesn't melt down.
I will gladly welcome new technology that works and increases performance.

however you can see there is no SSSA, and looks more like a ST1300 than a VFR... Where the others look like a CBR with shaft drive

I firmly believe age is a frame of mind!!! When we stop living life like we want to, we get old, and if you do what you really love in life, it helps keep you young. Although I will say that with age comes experience!!!

Along with other changes I think they are moving in the right direction for riders like myself. If you want a high performance no compromise bike, why not just get the CBR or a Ducati etc.

Yeah, but before everybody does the crybaby, I'm guessing that this is the ST replacement (it was posted on the ST forum, d'uh). We haven't yet seen the VFR version.Doesn't look too bad to me, anyway. And the rear view looks like they might have made the fugly exhaust look a bit better? Or am I only hoping?
It was post on sport-touring.net, not the ST forum. This will be the new VFR. When I look at this motorcycle and then look at my VFR with side cases I'm not seeing where one could be called a VFR and the other should not.

This is the vfr / blackbird replacement, no doubt about it. The ST version is... well... quite unattractive. It has some kind of air bag / crash protection built into the front of the bike. It makes the lower part of the nose stick out obscenely... it doesn't look normal.
And if those mirrors are actually some kind of gross chrome plastic crap, paint em :) replace em with some other mirrors? That's not a show stopper imho ;)

Hehehe yeah, how about we save all the caterwauling until some specs/performance data is available... If it goes a lot better than it looks then so does the CBR remember
As for what this is, I guess a lot depends on whether they are going to offer the ST version with full manual gearbox option. Because yes, that is a clutch lever hanging off the left hand bar end. If they're not, then I suppose it's the 'sport' version. Whatever the case it looks like you'll at least have the option of factory hard bags on the (hopefully significantly less expensive) manual version.

Honda has stated that the new VFR is only the "tip of the iceburg" and that we should expect to see a whole generation of v4 machines, similar to what the fireblade started in 1992.. This will likely include more sport oriented machines. They've publically stated that they want to take the company in a more V4 oriented direction. The moment they release a V4 superbike, I am *there* with money in hand. No contest. A V4 600cc SS would make my day.

I have waited and waited for a new VFR, hoping for a 900 or 1000. I am dissappointed. I do not need 200hp or 1200cc's. I ride in the city so want the smaller bike.
So I guess I either replace my existing bike or look elsewhere. I wonder what those new bmw's are like?

No one knows yet. It's still rumor, spy pics, and marketing hype.
Regardless of what they bring, I'm sure you will still be able to get a new sixth gen 800 for another year or two at least. The dealers are still trying to move the 2007 models today. When/if the new one arrives, they'll be clearing the sixth gen for some time. You'll have plenty of chance to decide whether the new bike suits you, or whether to grab one of the remaining sixth gens at a killer price.
In the days of the 3rd and 4th gens, saddlebags were considered more of an option that some sometimes considered. Now it seems like Honda designed the bike with them in mind from the first day on the CAD computer screens.
"T" guys are happy, "S" guys are dissapointed.
To be frank. in my case, I always hoped that the VFR employed more NR750 genes instead of ST1300's...sooo I guess I'm justifyably dissapointed with what I see so far.

Many pics with saddle bags mounted really gives the signal where the pendulum had swung more towards touring instead of the sport side of ST that the VFR had occupied mostly in the past as a motorcycle type.I've seen pics of three VFRs and only one of them had saddle bags. Also it is not just the looks that makes it a sport bike but it's performance. From the pics it seems Honda has upped the suspension with USD boingers, hopefully they can be tweaked like Fireblade forks, not just spring preload. The power to weight ratio is likely better than that of any other VFR. It looks like it has a shorter wheelbase than a blackbird, so no, I am not convinced this VFR has become more of a tourer. Of all gens VFR I think the 6th gen has the most sportbike feel yet it is the only one that has factory saddle bags.

You don't say?
http://www.vfrdiscus...showtopic=53852
I posted that article in the VFR Info section... It's a fantastic piece from BIKE detailing how the V4 is built, the science behind the engine, and a little about why costs are so high. Gear driven cams, while sounding great, really added to the cost of the bike. A V4, of course, has two heads, two sets of camshafts, a more elaborate exhaust system etc etc etc... It does indeed cost a little more...
But honestly - 6k more? Seriously? A lot of the cost reductions in designing and making an inline 4 have come from the fact that, of course, that's where Honda has put their money. If you put more R&D into something, of course it is going to come out cheaper in the long run as your process becomes more efficient.
May I ask when it was that you spoke with those two gents? How long ago was that? Prior to all this new VFR stuff, or more recently?

That's only $10 per unit difference, I wonder what that figure inflates to by the time it makes all the way to MSRP?

However (but!) it may be just like the 6th Gen that has allowance made for saddle bags in the form of brackets being already present. I bet they tested that too in pre-production form with Honda sidecases mounted, just to make sure there weren't any adverse handling effects they needed to engineer out.
This was just updated on 9/25 discussing the chassis and behavoir of new 1200

Still remains to be seen. Remember, Honda's GP bikes are V4 800's so there is a racing/marketing connection there. It's all speculation, but I could see an 800cc V4 race replica happening at some point in the future.

Worse than that, look at those locked elbows. I'm guessing this guy is an engineer of some sort and not a professional test rider.
