I've been reading a lot of nonsense around here lately that the VFR will be turned into an automatic bike. This is not the case.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLhx4cQq1sA...r_embedded#t=51

This is the video showing the dual clutch transmission in action. Look carefully. Honda specifically references two separate models of the V4. One with the manual transmission, and one with the automatic dual clutch. They specifically compare the manual transmission to the dual clutch transmission in the video. There are two separate transmissions. It cannot be otherwise.

Also - look closely at the pictures while the test each. One has a clutch lever and a shifter. The other has no clutch lever, and no shifter near the foot.

^ - That picture clearly shows a clutch lever as well as the shifter.

Again - My guess?

There are two separate models of the V4. One will utilize a regular manual tranmission. The other will utilize Honda's dual clutch automatic shifting transmission. Odd are that you'll have to pay more for the dual clutch model. MSRP should be lower on the standard model, and we will likely see many more manual transmission models on showroom floors than we will the dual clutch model.

Calm down. The V4 is not going to be fully automatic. You'll have your pick, much like the FJR.

I thought the earlier post cleared up the fact that the tranny was fully auto, paddle shift or fully manual? so a three in one deal?

I think the current issue of Motorcyclist has it pretty well pegged: conventional 6-speed shift on the VFR, with the auto-clutch system on a ST1300 replacement bike. The auto-clutch system could be an option for the VFR.

The video shows two different bikes, check the km readings on the dash. auto/paddle shift or manual = dual clutch or standard clutch.

I'm hoping for engine options too, 800 or 1000cc VFR & 1200cc ST. Cylinder deactivation only in the ST model, VFR1000 with full time 4 cylinder.

Oh yeah, and under $8K for the VFR model, with included hard bags. And 5 year free maintenance. Yeah, that's the ticket...

that second link isn't working for me

Its is an auto. The video is just comparing how a "normal" bike functions with a clutch and how the new bike with auto will function.

If you watch the video it clearly shows 2 different versions of the bike.

True to a degree... but I understand from the vid that there COULD be two versions of the bike: one with fully manual transmission and the other with the dual option of fully automatic or the semi-automatic option... so there would always be a shift lever at the left foot, for the semi mode, but it would be rendered useless under the full auto mode...

None of us have the exclusive information on what will finally be offered up to the end users (us). So in all honesty we'll really have to wait until Honda officially puts us in the know!!

Not to worry, Timmy.....
There might be choices or combos of transmissions to consider but, the only thing a dealer told me that he knew for sure was:
"They only come in Phlat Bulack. NH666 color code."
Honda is finally 'Armageddenit'. :warranty:

After a little further reading, all DC's are electronically/computer controlled, so there are two different transmissions being shown in the vid.

You can see dual hydraulic circuits in the DC transmission, which makes sense since you only want one clutch engaged at a time. One or the other circuit would need to always be engaged.
