FWIW, according to a Honda sales rep in St. Jerome Quebec...
3 VFR models coming
one replaces the Blackbird - will be 1200cc, will be the most powerful version, ~165HP
one replaces the ST1300 - will be 1200cc, the most 'loaded' version, HP, somewhere between the 145 - 165HP
one replaces the VFR800 - will be GET THIS...1000cc, marginally heavier, 145 HP.
1st one out will be the Blackbird replacement 1200F (Oct 8 unveiling), 2nd one the 1200T, and LASTLY the VFR1000 (the one you guys are dying for) unveiled in spring 2010...
I would LOVE to believe this! However, I've never trusted pre-production info from any dealer - car or motorcycle. I'm so tired of going into dealerships and telling the salesperson about all the features available on the vehicle they're trying to sell me!

The DSG tranny will be a 1500$ CAN option.
Time will tell...

Sorry but I don't believe it. VFR1000 absolutely makes no sense. Time will tell.

I just can't see how they would sell the VFR1200 and VFR1000. Unless it is cheaper by $3,000 nobody would buy the 1000cc model - why go for something less?
Maybe the CBR line will be killed off and replaced with a hyper-sports V4? It would mean their direction is aligned all the way from MotoGP down I guess. Pure speculation at this point.
All I know is, the VFR1200F is the bike *I* want anyway (as someone who does not drive a car or ride a train for any commuting duties). My bike needs to do it all, and only the "F" model can do that as it looks to be the closest thing to the current 800 in terms of all-round capabilities. Otherwise, I'd be riding a freakin' CBR!

Vfr 1000?? doesn't make sense. it makes more economical sense to use the same power plant and tune differently for each bike. at least thats what some of the other have done.

 Man, this is getting good. Let's start our own MCN.
No, they're over on the 'other' site requesting opinions. VFRD isn't good enough for them. hmmph!
The rumor I read was there are 3 models in development, but the 3rd is a 1200 adventure bike to replace the Valverado, Valvedor, Valvenstein, whatever bike it is that we don't get in the US. But production on the other two won't be decided until sales figures start coming in on this first bike.
My dealer said he wouldn't order one without cash up front seeing as how the 2007 I bought had been sitting on his floor for 27 months collecting dust before I bought it. Doesn't matter to me anyway if it has a shaft I'll be passing on it.

I think's because MCN knows folks here won't hesitate to call BS. We've done it before.
Does it seem like this new VFR has a really long wheel base? Looking at the pics, the passenger seating position is forward of the rear wheel center-line, while on the 6th gen it is behind the rear wheel center-line. I wounder how it will handle with a bags full of gear and a passenger?

60 inch. 3 inch longer.
If the passenger seating position and mounts for luggage are now more forward of the rear axle, it will handle the weight much better.
Thanks Mike, that puts it into perspective. I wonder whether the ratio of weight to wheelbase, in terms of 'nimbleness', stays constant as the weight and wheelbase go up? If that makes sense... how long are the big Beemer and the Blackbird, to which this bike most closely compares?
(BTW - am enjoying the Motomatters contributions!)

2 models I believe, 3 is a stretch.....
:+1:
The one we've all seen pictures of will replace the VFR800 while a more loaded up version of the same bike will replace the ST1300. And if this more loaded up version doesn't materialize, just put some side cases on the new VFR1200 and that'll do it. I just can't imagine Honda keeping the ST1300 around.
Regarding the new VFR1200's engine, the part I still can't get over is how the outer cylinders will face forward and the inner ones will face back. The new motor's gonna be just as wide as an I-4 and I don't think V-4 purists will go for it (but then again, the new bike is being built for a different market now.)

+1. As nice as the ST1300 seems to me, I bet its sale #s pale in comparison to the FJR and Connie 14. Honda would be better off replacing it with an ST version of the new VFR.
