Horn Location for 5th Gen

Need to replace the horn - plan to put in a good pair of hella's or bosch. The problem is the ideal location. Any suggestions ...with images will be of good help.

Not sure what year bike you have, but I stuffed air horns in the tail of my 5th gen.

Don't know about those, but the Stebel Nautilus Compact Motorcycle Air Horn will fit under the fairing on either side. A few have even mounted it in the OEM horn location.

I left my standard horn where it was, but tweaked the adjustment screw to make sure it was as good as it could be. The two Fiamms are mounted under each side of the front fairing, on very bent brackets hanging off the front fairing stay. I had to put thin foam rubber on the horns in case they rested against the fairing. It's tight, but works OK - just took lots of fiddling to get them mounted right.

Thanks for your pictures. Nice spot but i already have HID blasters over there - i had screwed them exactly where you have put the horns.

Hmmmm.... see if there's room under the side fairings. On my '90 VFR there was no room up the front, so I had each horn under one of the side fairings, attached to the bottom radiator bracket. I know it's not the same as the 5th Gen, but the point is that if the horns are loud, you can put them basically anywhere - the sound will still manage to find its way out. :fing02:

I tried this location (right hand side above the coolant bottle) for 1 of the two FIAMMs but the sound didnot "travel" well

So where did I put it?

The lower section that holds the front forks has bolts holes I used to mount a little bracket.
It just clears the oil cooler

The bottle nozzle is going to screw up your horn sound ...it will jarr or get muffled.

Still struggling with this. I did put the Horn x 2 in the original place but since they are a little big, it hits the Front mud guard on a very bad road. The area under the upper Cowl is not a option anymore since i have the HID kit located there.

any other suggestions ?

I had two Fiamm horns arranged like so:

That was before the RC51 front end conversion. They never hit the front fender, but I also had bent the mounting brackets to avoid that.


After the RC51 forks, I put one horn on each side of the bike under the fairings, above each radiator.

Not the ideal location, but I was puzzled as to where I could fit them, and that's what I came up with.

I added one on the left side, bolted to the dumbo signal mount.

My bike's PO squeezed a Stebel Nautilus Compact under the left side of the top fairing.  It fits (just) and is Stebel Nautilus Compact-loud!  I'm sure I've posted pics somewhere...
