I would guess I'm not the first to see this but if you go to Honda's website and go to the motorcycle section on top and then scroll to the sport bikes it drops down and shows the CBR's, 6th generation VFR and the 1200f with the MSRP Base price of $15,999. The CBR's are still TBA. So now we wait and see what the price of the push button model will be and accessories. Should only take Honda about another 6 months to get those I out I suppose.........

Good news all I need is 15K and I'm in. Posted Image

Strange, the new VFR has disappeared from the powersports.honda.com site; all it shows is the 2009 VFR800. Maybe someone updated the webpage with the price prematurely, and they had to yank the page?

D'oh! there it is.
I clicked on the Sport tab without looking at the pulldown first.

That's the base price though. What's it gonna be when you add the optional luggage and then the auto tranny (some will want it, but not me)?

Funny how they still list the VFR800. They must have a lot of 09's still left.

Yeah and most likely you will be able to pick one up for about $8500 bucks once the 1200f's start arriving and they linger on the showroom floors. It'll be just like the 07's out there right now I would guess.

That's 1/3 higher $$ than the 800. Is it really 1/3 better? With $16K rattling in my pocket I'm going Multistrada shopping, thank you.

I was at the International Bike show in San Mateo. I saw the MSRP on the VFR1200's tag...Looks like a good deal!

Yep, it's priced pretty high, but maybe not as high as people had feared. And I doubt many will actually sell for MSRP, or at least not in the U.S. Figure maybe $2k off list price and it's at least competitive with a base model BMW K1300S.
#14
16,000?hah i would buy a bmw k1200s instead.

for 16,000, I could buy really nice 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation bikes plus a crashed 6th generation and have enough scratch left over for the case of flat black paint that I would be requiring.

and that is a shame because I really want the new one. (I wouldnt even paint it)

I'm sorry but for the price, the performance and tech it looks like a great bike. It's not for everyone, but I think it's a great bike. Obviously everyone will be modding it out. Let somebody rent one out and then we'll see if it is as good or bad as it gets.

All these posts about Gear driven Cams etc. Are really a waste. It comes down to compromises. You Can't please everyone I guess.... To me it looks like they're going for the Beemer market. That is where the VFR fits. The price is right for what they are going for.

Sorry about the rant!

I don't care to get into a debate about good, bad, or somewhere in the middle about the features on the new VFR. However, $16K price is clearly heading this bike in a different direction than the previous models.

I have owned VFR's in Gen 1,2,3,4,& 5 (plus an RC30) so I feel confident is saying that I am a V4 fan. But in this economic environment and the other great bike choices, I just cannot personally justify even considering a Gen 7.

I sure hope it is a success and is the base of an entire line of Honda V4's. It just will not be on my dime.

There are still 07 models new at dealers for about 40% the cost of the 2010 model. :comp13:
#18
At least $1000 overpriced IMO. If you are a shopper that compares features for price this bike should have been priced at $14999 or less to compete with the K13S. Now, for people who buy based on brand only...it won't matter. They'll buy a Honda/VFR regardless of price.

5 used corrolas and a complete set of RC series Honda V4s are not comparable.
#21
Ok then 5 used Camrys.
#22
Even if the bike is worth $15k, that's just too rich for my blood. I'll be moving on to a Sprint ST or FZ1 after my 6th gen dies.

Perhaps when the 1200 is 6 years old, I'll be able to get one.
#23
I really anticipated that the bike would be between the $16k and $18k mark, and lo and behold... it is. I would need to test ride, but even then, not a good time for me to buy one. My 4th and 6th generation VFRs fit the bill quite nicely for me, and it is going to be awhile until I start looking at a new bike. A long while.

I think for now all comments are really based on speculation and opinion only, since very few have even seen one close up let alone have sat on one. Until it gets released into the wild we won't know if it is worth the price tag. Maybe this thing will be so freakin smooth and fast etc. that the $15K won't be a big deal for someone in this market anyway. On the other hand maybe it will suck. We just don't know yet. $15K will be expensive for anyone who doesn't like to spend more then $10K regardless and I think that is the view of many folks posting on here so of course they will complain. Thats what a forum is for to have a place to speak your mind. I don't like to bag on something until I know it deserves it. The only thing that I can even see complaining about might be the weight but again a moot point until you get a chance to see or ride it. 20,30,40,50 lbs really doesn't matter in the real world riding most of us do. On the track thats a different story.

I personally would rather see it a little less expensive but I could say that about anything I want so its a moot point. I will wait and see however before I make judgement. I need to see one first of all and check it out. The reports from others say the fit and finish is top notch so thats a good sign. My opinions without seeing it are that I personally like the look. Not sure about the paint color however. I like the fact the saddlebags are quick release and leave a clean look to the bike when off. Its got a slipper clutch, a motor that should haul arse, Shaft Drive, ABS and some other nice farkles. (Not including the F1 style shifting which seems pretty cool too.) To me thats a lot of technology in a bike that should be a typical rock solid Honda and if you can get out the door with the bags, center stand and the bike for around $17K-$18K not to bad when compared to other similiar setups available. Honda obviously is shooting for the folks who want a little more from their ST and have the money to spend on it. If you want to spend under $10K get a sixth generation for the smoking prices out there. My 2 cents

Don't the bike show posts so far say the new VFR is roped off so you can't sit on it or even get a really close view?

Not sure I'll make one of the shows this winter, so I'll likely have to wait to see the new bike in a showroom next year.

I heard at the LA bike show this weekend they're going to have a few models out on the floor for people to touch and sit on.

Does anyone really take the MSRP seriously in this economy? That is what they would like the bike to sell for. What you are willing to pay for it is closer to what the selling price will be after the wealthy swoop up a few models and the rest start collecting dust and inventory fees. I'm still open minded about this bike. Gonna finally see this weekend at the LongBeach show.

I would guess that for the first few months anyway you for sure won't touch it for less then MSRP as all the folks who gotta have one and have the coin will suck them up. Hopefully Honda makes a good run of them and eventually there will be a surplus. However it would not surprise me that in this economy they trickle these into dealers in limited numbers to keep the price up especially since the economy sucks. I guess time will tell. I wish they would have made one in all black that looks sic..............

As much as I'm having to let the VFR1200's looks grow on me, the multistrada never will. I think it looks like it got squeezed out the wrong end of one of Ducati's designers.

Isn't that nearly the same MSRP as the DN-01, so comparatively within Honda's product line it isn't to bad a price, but a $4k price jump from the model it is replacing is a pretty big price gap unless Honda was planning on keeping the 800 and adding the 1200 then they would be at nearly every class; 600 (CBR), 800 (VFR), 1000 (CBR), 1200 (VFR) which would be a nice lineup to choose from.

You can thrash the crap out of the Corollas, but the only thing the Lexus is really good for is old people and status seekers. Yep, all of these upper-ended Bikes are gettin' themselves seated in the $13,000 to $17,000 range. When You add things like full suspension adjustments, inverted forks, larger brakes, shaft drive, etc., etc. to the VFR line, the price, for sure, is goin' up. Also every model year that ticks off is gonna' have an increase also. The only thing that kept the 6th Gen VFR's MSRP down some was the fact that it simply wasn't selling in large numbers, and Honda could build basically the same Bike over and over...the "New Stuff" is gonna' cost Ya', whether it's a Cruiser, Sport Bike, Tourer, or whatever. A person just has to decide, and look at Their budget..... :fing02:

Hell..I remember when the new Goldwing came out. It was maybe $2000 more than the previous model. And that thing was ground up brand new!! I guess Honda charges by the cc....Should have went to 1000cc and kept the price @ 13999. I defy anyone to tell me what the standard VFR 1200 has on it that hasnt been done before..

I know Honda would as soon destroy excess inventory than drive down the value of their products. I think the MSRP is there to make the inevitable discount look that much more dramatic.

I recall a story I read where Honda sent surplus parts to the landfill and recycle rather than discount them.

I think 16k for a VFR is a load of crap, at least for what a VFR is in my mind. Now, what they threw the VFR label on for 2010 is a whole different story. The new VFR has SO MANY improvements that I think it just might warrant the 16k tag hanging on it's mirror. Look at what an old Vette cost brand new vs. what a 2010 runs and I'm sure you will have an equal increase in price. However, you will also see performance improvements, nav systems, run flat technology etc.. I'm sure the time spent in design, trashing ideas, starting over, producing proto-types, changing those as well, and getting this thing to market costs a fortune. I would rather pay 16k for them to produce it than for me to try to come up with my own "VFR" for less. I would start out with a big block of wood and a pocket knife.

Considering I was going to purchase an ST1300 with the same $15,999 MSRP, the VMW actually is looking like somewhat of a bargain... :fing02:

Or if not a bargain, at least a better choice. :)

It doesn't have the terrible fairing lowers, it weighs a lot less, and it's prettier.

Can't judge it without: 1) Seeing it in person. 2) Sitting on it. 3) Riding it.

I understand the 16k price may put it out of many folks' price range (myself included), but I could see myself on a bike like that in a few years. A sporty, shaft-driven 1200cc V4-powered ride with the ability to easily two-up or seriously tour. All coupled with Honda's reliability and quality.

Doesn't sound like a crazy price to me. ;)

And the white one looks damn sweet!
#54
Based on the upgrades Kawasaki did to the Connie 1400 and its MSRP I think the new VFR has got a lot of competition at a time when people do not have a lot of extra cash. I realize that the VFR and Connie are supposedly not amened at the same customer but the VFR probably weighs close the the same and the VFR is probably more $.

I think from a marketing perspective Honda would have done better keeping the VFR lighter and cheaper (then it would not need 1200 cc's - maybe 1000 cc's) and then come out with a redesigned ST1300 that would be the more Touring / Sport model for 2 up. It's almost like they have moved the VFR further into the "which market does this bike fall into" equation.
