Anyone modified the rear cowl so the rear handle bars still stay on ? pictures would help. Not sure i want to start cutting the cowl before i know how its going to look.
I have a different Givi set up than timmy so ended up cutting a little larger opening. I've never tried to fit it with the grab handles though, I think you'd have to make a fairly large cut in the cowl. I picked up one cheap off eBay to cut up, left the original intact.
I've done the mod and will try to remember to get pics up for you, right now I don't have any and the bike is burried behind other projects. I'll see what I can do in the next couple of weeks to get some of them completed and the bike out. I did it with a Dremel, looks good with the handles in place. None the less, just have to take you time and just a little plastic off at a time, can't put it back on nearly as easily as it comes off! PM me if I don't get pics up as a reminder, might take me up to 2 weeks but after that, I've forgoten!
Mine was done by a previous owner, but I had to enlarge the openings slightly to accommodate the increased height of the grab handles after I fitted a Ventura rack (bolts on under the grab handles). I used a laminate trimmer - this cut so cleanly it left a nice edge around the enlarged opening.

Very neat job on the cutting. Looks nice. I think i am convinced to do the same. have to ensure i don't cut more :D
Was difficult to stencil out the right cut. So i did make a sample "outline" using a hard board and then got the final cut on the Rear Solo Seat Cover. But All's well.

That's what I was thinking, I took my grab bars off the very first day I got the bike....they are useless for a passenger to hold on to :goofy:

Next Project how to make it easy to take the Cowl out instead of the bolts. Has any one used any kind of PUSH TYPE clasps or something so taking that off is easy.

Sargent sells some quick release pins. http://www.sargentcy...wsvfr8.htm��You could probably find them cheaper at a local hardware store. They do require you to drill out the threads.

Indeed. It's easier to remove the cowl than re-install the bars.
In any case, my bike was like that when I got it. Apart from using the grab handles to wheel the bike around or to bungy things to when carrying stuff on the seat (which I've never done as I have a packrack), the handles aren't used. MY wife hangs onto me when riding, but only in the twisties.
If I took the grab handles off now, it'd leave ugly holes in the cowl.

Got my quick release pins yesterday - they fit like a charm. Used the 3/16 size with 1 inch length. This does not require any alteration (like drilling and making the hole bigger).
slipped on a pipe insert to eliminate any play between the fitting and the pin. This also reduced the play between the original hole and the pin. Took some time to get the exact length.

Actually it depends on how savvy your passenger is. My wife uses them all the time. If we are going down a steep hill or if she knows that I'm going to slow quickly for a light she'll grab the handles. She is great on the bike, I sometimes wonder if she's still back there when I'm leaning through corners.
