I'd sre like to see a pictorial on how to wire the heated grips on a 6th gen VFR. Any pics around? Did you guys wire in a fuse as suggested in the instructions?

Thanks,

Mine's a 5th Gen, but I wired it into my Blue Sea 5025 fusebox. It already had a fuse on the end, so I just left that on the end so I wouldn't have to cut the eyelets off the end of the cables.
BTW - mine (the second one on this bike) is the Oxford one with the solid-state controller. The destructions that came with it said to wire it straight to the battery, as if you leave it on, it turns itself of when the volts drop to 11.5, but that's just DUMB! The fusebox is wired to a relay switched by the taillight, so it's more betterer. :fing02:

I haven't installed mine yet, thanks to the weather. But I got Tightwad's accessory fuse block and plan on wiring it to that, along with the outlet for my heated jacket liner and my Zumo.

I know, I'm no help.

Tightwad has a lot of good products and is full of useful information!!

I wired mine from my accessory fuse block. I used the wire for my license plate light for switched power. I just traced the wire from the light back to the bundle of wires next to the battery and spiced into that. You definitely want a fuse and also want your heated grips to shut off when you switch off your bike. Otherwise, you risk having a dead battery when you forget and leave them on.

Canyonchasers.net has a wiring diagram that should help: CLICK HERE

I believe you always want to wire accessories into either a fuse block or a separate fuse. You might search this forum for "fuse block" postings. I did that when I was preparing to install heated grips and learned a lot from it.
