Someone had a great project thread about replacing the 5th gen headlights with a HID kit upg that was very detailed and great! I can't find it for the life of me and hope that it didnt get swallowed by the forum monster. Anyone have any ideas where it is? If not anyone have any HID kit suggestions / experiences? I'm ready to go white!

I did a 5th gen HID upgrade. Many will try to drop in a H4 HID and be done with it. I did not want to get flashed or ticketed, so I did it right. I ordered the some ellipsoid projector housings for a H1 bulb. They have the correct lenses, with the cutoffs so as not to blind oncoming cars. It basically is the same system used in cars with OEM systems. I split the headlight case the hard way, this time I would soak the adhesive in paint thinner, this breaks the glue down as I found later. I made a bracket that held both of the housings,
https://www.polo-mot...blendlicht.html after ripping out the reflectors. The bracket is something I would be happy to show, though this one is I am using is a bit of a prototype. I then glued the assemblies together. You insert the bulbs and feed the wires out the back. I make a isolating disk that spaced the wires and kept water out. I used the OEM rubber booty. I mounted the ballasts under those gray panels on both sides. Since the HIDs can come with HI/LO settings, I would follow the aftermarket instructions on how to. I have seen others who just slap in HID bulbs into standard headlight assemblies, dumb. They are brighter, but at what expense? Having a focused emission which doesn't tee off and blind others is the proper way. I know my ex-girlfriend hated the OEM HID lights, I can imagine how aftermarket systems mounted incorrectly must make people feel.

You can bake the headlamp unit apart in any kitchen oven--that's what I did. There should be some pics of mine in my gallery, though I never finished it. OEM Bi-Xenon is the only way...

I used Infiniti G36 bi-xenon projectors, but I also have some FX35s and a set of "FXR" Chinese knock-offs, all from The Retrofit Source in the 'States. The FXRs are cheap-ish, but the quality is not as good as the OEM projectors. I looked into a bunch of different projectors (and bought some of them!), but the G35s have the right quality, size, versatility and cost that I was looking for. Good luck.

I trust mineral spirits more than heat. You can leave it in for as long as you want. You mess up with heat, and you're back 250 big ones.

You don't need much heat, actually. I think most retrofitters use the oven method.
