I tried searching for the how to on how to wire it up on both google and this forum and come up with nothing.
I remember reading threads of people using 98-02 Yamaha R1 5 wire regulators off ebay and wiring them up.
My regulator is from an 01 R1 with the 5 wire plug on the bottom I just need to know which wire goes to what.

Hi and just fitted 04 R1 R/R to my 4th gen.
The wiring is all three yellow wires go to the 3 male posts (left connector or where the 3 black wires are in pic)and when looking at the unit with the connectors facing down, the positive(red) lead goes to the male pin nearest the centre of the right connector(left post) and the negative lead goes to the outside of the right hand connector.
I used the FH011AA and the wiring is exactly the same. Just had to trim 1 cm off the fins to get it to fit.
I also ran a new wire from the positive on the R/R to the battery positive and the negative R/R directly to the frame ground as well as to the battery negative.
Runs so cool it is incredible.

the Triumph Rat forum guys have done their homework. excellent informative thread here .... http://www.triumphra...or-upgrade.html this is the best info i've seen yet on changeover/upgrade.
i just completed my mosfet changeover with a ZX10 R/R, runs cool and stable.
I helped a friend install one on his 98 and he seems happy. For my 97 I have the Honda fin unit and not had any other issues. I do carry a spare for long trips. The connections staying clean are one of the most import part of the system.

Hahaha yours are a different gold and the previous owner painted mine :-)
Thats a sweet looking 4th gen and nice look with under seat exhaust. Do you have a thread about the exhaust?
Mine is different from the ones showed here, it looks the same but the 5 wire is only 1 plug not 2 on each side..
It looks just like the one showed but a different plug. On ebay it was stated to be from an 02 R1
but I ordered it while I was in Iraq. I had a thread for that type as well but my computer crashed and I lost the link. So do I have the wrong one?

There should be a number and letters on the R/R somewhere. If it is a Mosfet regulator it will start with an FH-0 prefix.
This unit you have looks like an SH- unit I have from an R6 and if so is not a Mosfet R/R
I read that long post about the mosfet ones I will hold out for one of those...
I am not having charging issues with my bike right now, but Its more of I like the peace of mind sort of thing.
When I first bought the bike I did a bunch of preventative maintenance on it and when I had the tail off I didn't notice any charged wires or brittle insulation
