How to you get the front end up?

Did the 86-87 700/750 come with a centerstand? Was it an aftermarket add-on?

All my bikes have a centerstand. How the heck do I get the front wheel off of this VFR
?
My new tire is here and I have a HF lift, but I can't figure out how to jack up the front end.

You can probably use a regular stand to prop up the rear (if anyone near you has one), then jack up the bike from the headers.

Yes the center stand in the U.S. market was an additional option for more money. Not many around. It took me 4 years of watching ebay and other places on the internet til I found mine.

Before I had it I used a rear stand and a floor jack with a 2x12 that is about 18 inches long. Place it under the header, after removing side fairings, and lift. The whole bike should be up and stable allowing removal of both wheels access for what ever work is intended.

The vtec (has a centerstand) manual actually says to use a jack with a piece if wood under the headers. Works great, dont even have to take of the fairings because of the wood. I have a special piece just for this. Sounds like you need a set of proper stands.

lol. Having a nice 2-ton jack with a large rubber padded base does wonders for little jobs like that. You can also pick up a Pit Bull stand that grabs the stem of the Triple Tree.

i generally use a phone book under the headers... works well enough.

If you decide to go the Pit Bull route, I got mine at the local Cycle Gear at their New Year's Day sale - I don't recall for sure - but it was either 20% or 30% off list.

Does your HF lift have a tire vice on it? If so, back the bike onto the lift and secure the rear wheel in the vice. Then put a jack under the headers with a piece of wood or something to keep from scratching the pipes. I do that pretty often on mine.

Huh, don't have the stands (because all the bikes have centerstands except the KLR which can simply be thrown on its side for tire changes :biggrin: ).

I'm not a weakling but I'm not sure I can back the thing up the lift, that would be the best way since the extra money went towards a tire and there's not much left for stands.

I'll remove the full fuel tank and try to back it up there. I never heard of jacking up a bike by the headers, but I have a good scissor jack for that.

Backed it up the ramp onto the lift, what a workout! (pant, pant). Could not have done that with the fuel tank in place! Good idea, though, cuz it worked.

Wheel is off with a minimum of fuss.

The anti-dive thing on the forks: I don't have an owner's manual, how does it work, what are the settings for?

The TRAC system is pretty much useless, set both knobs the same and forget about it. Also, let the air pressure out of your forks(if you have any) and add 10mm of oil to each fork instead.

I tried that method with ratcheting tie downs and it worked for me. (that was before I thought about using my center stand and a jack, duh)
