webbed kickstand

I have spent since 7am this am to about a half hour ago trying to make a webbed kickstand for my spidey viffer. My idea is to make the kick stand first with lots of extra material up top and then cut the main stand and the web one at the correct height then weld. My problem is that I just can't seem to get the web the way i like it and at the correct bed to sit on the ground with a good support.

I have experimenting between gas welding, mig welding and normal welding. All appear to provide more then enough strength but more testing will need to be done. I am using 1/2 inch round bar ( I sound like Paul JR of Choppers) and am flattening 3 inches of it for the base as I can shorten and shape it as needed. I am just not able for some reason to get the correct bends i need to make it work. then at the top I will weld all the bars together into one strong end to then weld to the main stand.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome

I will see if I can find my camera and post a pic or two as well.

A pic would be great, to see what direction you're heading in. It's a bit hard to picture at the moment.

Do like the pros do.

Prop the bike up in the position you want it to be at the end. Now take a piece of metal and mock it up with hot glue, etc. Once its mocked up, make one out of someting you don't mind modding, and bolt it in place and try it. After it works, make it out of metal and polish, coat, paint, etc.

Personally, I would make it from 1 piece bolted up top horizontally, 2 down pieces on pivots with a hinged foot, than spidey it. Black painted metal with polished highlights looks invisible against the right background.

Watch some old episodes of OCC to see how they've done web accents on the eighty different web themed bikes they built. :goofy:

I have propped the bike up, and let sit on the side stand to try and get my correct bends. If I can get this to work it will be painted as to show it off not hide it.

This will be my plan tomorrow. I am going to make the web separate from the stand leave a gap at the to as to slide or pry it on and then figure a way to secure it. This way i can paint the stand and web separate colors and not affect the strength of the kickstand.
