Pruned inactive members

I have just pruned about 5000 members who have not been active since 2008, in order to speed up the server a bit. I saved a copy of the forum database for archiving purposes. Should speed up searches and overall make things run a bit faster. so far since 2002 there have been 12000 members who for reasons unknown have chosen not to log in since 2008.

I should probably note that the moderators and I have taken a fundamentally different approach to our membership in terms of how we allow new members in.

We are no longer completely open instantly to whoever has 10 minutes to fill out the forms, we are still free, the rules are the same. It is just that now we have taken to approving new members personally, based on ip lookups, and a simple questionnaire, whats your location and why do you want to be a member. We don't accept members who are not here for a good reason, who mask who they are, or are here only to use our resources once then never be heard from again. People come and go all the time thats life, but we have become just a bit more exclusive by choice, we don't like spam, we don't want porn ads, or people who just want to download the manual then leave.

We are a community of like minded riders - so if that takes a bit more time to cultivate then so be it! It is better for us in the long run to have people who really want to be here, rather than those who are just wanting to troll around and use us but not give any of thier time or opionions in return. Shoot even those who dont like vfrs are welcome here as long as they repect the rules, we just dont want saps anymore!

Will my account still be active after I return from my next deployment? Emai/internet is pretty sketchy in Afghanistan.

Are you going to be deployed till 2014? If not then yes it will be.

I think pruning is a good idea. I hope you don't overload yourself with taking on the individual approval process. I truly enjoy this site and appreciate your efforts, even though a tennessean tried to run you over last year.

Sounds good to me. Keep up the excellent work. A big THANK YOU to everyone for your help and assistance over the years.

With the anonymous nature of the internet making a few hurdles to be a part of the site is the way to go. I trade Natural Gas and Oil and I have similar website setup to VFRD. If I didn't close it to the open internet it would be an absolute mess.
