would a 5th gen vfr engine and throttle bodies fit in 4th gen frame?

You would have a real hard time with that one.
4th gen swingarm pivots in the frame, 5th gen swingarm pivots in the rear of the engine cases.
The back side of the 5th gen engine case where the swingarm bolt runs though is dry, meaning there is no oil in that area of the casting. The gasket surface is forward of the pivot area.
BUT, I can imagine that to even have a hope of it working, you'd have to totally hack off the rear portion of the 5th gen cases, and I coudn't even begin to speculate how the engine mounts would/would not line up.
You'd have much better luck swapping engines between 3rd and 4th gens I believe.

Someone was trying to put GSXR throttle bodies on a 4th gen. Not sure where progress ended, but he got a way along.
