RJ's 98 VFR800

While it was rainy today I decided to hang out in the garage and detail the shite out of this new-to-me bike of mine... got the Porter Cable random orbital even out on it... several levels of polishing and then some Zaino to protect... WD40'd as much grime and grease off the swingarm, chain and other bits, but the bike was in clean shape (4,8k miles) when I picked her up so not too much to do... Was really happy with the polish job even on the stock screen, looks new again... 13 years of minimal grunge and dust, scrubbed off...  

This machine is bone stock...  but I do have a Harris CF hugger coming in from the UK to keep the grime off the shock...

Pull the muffler off and start it up, makes it sound like a GP bike!   I put  an MTC duel outlet, tri can out of UK, K/N and Power Commander III makes a world of difference.  Graham from Longmont, :98 VFR.

That keyfob thingy laying on your triple will soon create a permanent circular mark that you'll wish you'd avoided by putting the fob elsewhere.  Like velcro-ing it to a discreet area on the bike that you can get to when you need to activate it.  I mounted mine down in the black plastic area alongside the fork.  Plenty of swing clearance, and you can get your hand down there with the bars turned one way or the other.

I decided to try out the danmoto chinese exhaust they just came out with... I think it matches the lines so well on the bike...

Yesterday ran a canyon on my '98 VFR800 trying' out my new GoPro Hero HD...  the cam is mounted on the front of the windscreen, not behind it...

also, my inexpensive chinese made danmoto jisu exhaust is the best bang for the buck can I've ever fitted a bike with... small, light, loud but not obnoxious... great combination on a 14 year old bike... more than enough bike for street riding...

Wow.  That's clean.  Gotta do that to the chain, sprockets, etc. and get the chain spooge off.  Then I should probably get a new chain too.

If you were offered $6,000 cash for the bike, would you accept it?  This is purely hypothetical, of course.

I just put a Danmoto Jisu on my 98 VFR and WHOOOOAAAAHHH!!! I am not mad.  It really brings the bike out as far as noticeability and sound... I definitely recommend the muffler to all... Will post a video of it soon.

How much of an improvement do you feel the Sargeant seat made compared to the stock seat, and (if you don't mind my asking) where did you purchase the seat and how much did you pay for it?

With Tmac only two weeks away and with 400+ mile days likely in the near future, my 53 year-old, out-of-shape body has me considering the purchase of a Sergeant. However, the accountant in me is having a hard time reconciling with spending $300+ on a seat for a 13+ year-old motorcycle when the original is still in like-new condition.

Note that I'm also considering the purchase of an extra RR to bring along on the trip...just in case.

1)  I got the seat shipped for $333 from Chrome Addiction on the web.
2)  The seat is much more comfortable than my stock, tailbone has much better support and my balls aren't being mashed into the tank any more.
3)  I decided to get one while you could get one, the bike has been out of production for 10 years, so get one while the gettins' good.  Regardless of the age the bike, the VFR has so much longevity in it, one should be comfortable as the miles click off...

haha... you aren't the first to mention that... that's my garage door opener fob... I will have to look into that... no plans to sell this one...

Thinks that's the general consensus with the 5th gen, especially one like yours. Buy it, ride it, never sell it. :wheel:

There is a mod to tie in a garage door opener to the highbeam circuit. Pull up to garage, flip on highbeams, door opens.
