I thought I would try to get this going a little earlier this year.
No firm dates yet, just checking interest since only 3 of us were there last year.
If there is not enough interest I might just go to Arkansas for a little Ozarks ridin'
All right I checked and decided on Oct 28 & 29 for the Texas VFRD meet.
I'll look into the hotel situation tonight.Probably the Best Western since they worked out a deal for us.
If it is in the early part of September I'd be interested. I will be on vacation from Iraq from the middle of August to the middle of September. Would be a blast to ride with you guys for once instead of always reading about it on these forums!!!! :cheerleader:
Fall date for sure.
The meet is in the Hill Country around Kerrville.About the only good roads in Texas in my opinion.
Last year we did it in November and the weather was perfect.

I'm in if you can move it a little closer, like TN! :goofy:
Good luck with teh ride! :fing02:

Why don't you throw those saddle-bags on and take a road trip sometime like most of us. Try wearing out the centers of your tires for a change. Posted Image
Well done Ron! Looks pretty slim for me this year but I won't rule it out. Posted Image
Ron was a great guide last fall, and the roads were a blast. :fing02: That hotel was pretty gnarly, though.
I'm actually planning a ride to Deal's Gap in September, and I might have to use all my, ahem, bargaining chips for that trip. If I can't make the Smokies, I'm definitely in for the Sisters again.
Id be down... IF i have a bike by then... almost all of my "bike fund" i had squirreled away had to get used for some "unforseen expenses" i.e. replacing a bunch of install tools that some (sorry if this offends but...) MEXICANS stole out of the back of my explorer. so there goes $1000 worth of electrical tools, and I was in the middle of Building a 2011 Charger Pursuit for Chrysler Corporate...
Where is all of our Texas VFR riders at?
We all turn into commuters only?
I know it is still a ways off from happening, but it's a chance to go ride the best roads in Texas!
The only prob I'll have determining when this year is that the Hill Country is in a bad drought. In 06 they were also in a drought and the butterflies were terrible.
My only issue is time really. I get to spend 60 days a year with the Family and 20 of them is coming up at the end of this month. Just depends on the time really but if a group ride isn't in the cards, I'd be down for a simple meet and ride type thing if anyone is down for that. Might not be a knee draggin' event like TMAC or the likes, but maybe just a chance for a few fellow VFR'ers to hook up for a drink and a laugh. Let me know.
Im in no matter what! Im an unemployed traveler who has a lot of free time.... so count me in unless something huge comes up.
Here is my schedule if it helps....
we are waiting on a passport to arrive before we begin our Border to Border Insanity run... IF the passport arrives around sept 4-6th ill be heading out for our run then back in time for my girlfriend to come visit from mexico. so that total would be like sept 6th-19th im booked. IF the passport is late, itll be Sept 14th - 26thish im booked. That is the only thing I have going on.
Id love to do a Texas meetup. Arkansas... whereever. Ridden the sisters about 4 or 5 times now, still love it. I know a few other seriously awesome roads here north of Houston (not the stupid Forest 149 route!) but it wouldnt really be worth an entire trip, just great for living close or passing through. Check Hwy390 from 105west to Burton, Tx. AMAZING! Ridden it more times than i can count, never gets old.
Added dates to topic line.
Also the Best Western in Kerrville looks ok to me.All I care about is some place to sleep when I'm done riding.
I'll be ridingdown on Thursday.Ride the sisters on Friday and Saturday and head home Sunday

I've got to get some maintenance done.I need to bleed the brakes and change the spark plugs.
I will see your brake bleeding and raise you a coolant flush and a new front tire. :goofy:
Tires are easy.coolant flush not too bad.brake bleeding a pain in the butt.

I'm going to invite the same non-VFR crew I did last year - I don't know what Ben's availability is, but I could probably ride down with you on Thursday, Ron.
RC, I would volunteer to catch you at the Sonic, but I ain't waiting until Friday night.
Hopefully we will see you in Kerrville! :fing02:
I plan on leaving Thursday at about 9:30 or 10 am and meet up with a friend of mine who bought my RC51 in Hico. Then I'll take my normal route to Kerrville.Hopefully arrive in Kerrville at about 4 pm.
Friday is usually by far the best day to ride.Alot less traffic and I didn't see a single cop on Friday last year.
rcracer come on down Friday night and ride Saturday,it's worth the trip to ride these roads.
I can vouch for that! Its totally worth it to ride these roads! Ill be riding in from north of Houston, its about a 270 mile ride for me on boring I-10.
Hows the condition of the chipsealing being done out there? I rode out there sometime in late July and it was fresh and slightly gravely on 16 heading north towards Kerrville. I hate that crap before it cures and really sets it, back walks around big time in the turns when putting some speed down.

I just made my reservations at the Best Western in Kerrville using the corporate discount.
Edit: Actually I made my reservations and was about to put it in my calendar when I noticed I've already signed up for a convention in Dallas that weekend. I'm out, unfortunately.
I may be in! Somehow I miss this ride every year. I just started riding the VFR again now that the heat level is down a bit. I have concerns about the motor, but I can't let that stop me from riding!
Jeez I've been asleep. Completely forgot to check the SW ride group section on here. Right now pencil me in as a "probably" Call it %75 likely, since I just found out about this about 5 minutes ago.
Surfer - where about in Houston? I'm over in Humble.

I most likely won't be making it, as much as I wanted to! Seems things always pop up in the way!
Thats too bad Josh. You will be missing some fun roads.
So,let me try and get a good count of who is gonna be there.Since we are a little over a week away, maybe those of you that were not sure have a better idea now.
ronimalvfr(me)
Chuck(on my old RC51)
rcracer
txsurfer
Longhorn
Actually I think I'm going to have to bow out on this one. Unfortunately I've been running a bit over budget lately and a trip like this won't help matters. Sorry guys. Next time.
If nobody's going this weekend, how about next weekend? I couldn't go as scheduled, but I can commit to next weekend... plus it'll be warmer, supposedly.
just found this thread (and just joined VFRD). i'm down for another ride in the next couple months. itchin to get on the sisters.... have fun in the hills!
