Picked up a '94 a couple of weeks ago...think I did good?

After a few months of looking and an ordeal with a white deathtrap of a '93 that I posted about back in August, I finally found my dream VFR...1994, a hair under 23k miles, Vance & Hines exhaust, aftermarket windscreen, and the previous owner had totally gone through the electrical system. Apparently the R/R failed on him and blew up the battery, so he didn't take any chances fixing it. New wiring, aftermarket R/R the size of my fist with a fan attached, and a voltage gauge integrated into the fairing so I can keep an eye on everything. He also threw in the tank bra, a tank bag, and the stock exhaust and windscreen. I paid $3900 for it, more than most on here seem to have, but after riding it for two and a half weeks, it's worth every penny. I really cannot get enough of this thing, the ergos are perfect, it looks like red, NACA-ducted sex on two wheels, and the V&H pipe makes it sound like a NASCAR racer at full throttle. Glad to have finally joined the club for real!

I think they look even better sans the grab handles and with a seat cowl...but that's just me.

I have the cowl for it, it definitely looks great on the bike. I took these photos right after I brought the bike home, my fiancée still had the extra parts in our car.

Congratulations on the excellent Find! I found my mistress a little over 6 years ago with 21k on the clock, she is now over 84k & just as wonderful as the first day I got her!!!

I agree however, leaving the grab handles on and adding a topcase will severely may reduce the tendancy to draw tickets.

Welcome and nice find, beautiful bike and you can thank the previous owner for sorting the electrics. Now you will have heaps of fun and enjoyment riding your new VFR. You got the best colour too :smile:

WEIRD, I heard a V4 coming down the street a couple days ago and got to my window in time to see it, and it had the same V&H can as yours, what are the odds! you were heading down Prytania towards the CBD...anyways, i'll send you a PM, I'd love to have a look at it in person.

Congrats on your new toy! No offense but you really really overpaid for that bike and not just by a little. I've seen very clean 4th Gens with less mileage and lots of farkles selling for @ $2000 - $2800. Did you even attempt to get a lower price? Were you specifically looking for an older VFR? The reason I ask is because you could have easily bought a fuel injected 5th or 6th Gen VFR for the same price.

Meh...if he is happy with the deal then he paid the right price. Not saying he couldn't have done better but it's too late to do anything about it now so I would just let the man enjoy the ride. :wink:

They are as rare as hen's teeth in my area, especially in that good of condition, and after the terrible experience I had with a 3rd-gen I bought online, I wasn't going down that route again. I knew I wanted a VFR, but the only options I found were the one I bought, a friend's 3rd-gen with a blown alternator and/or R/R for not much less than I paid, an '02 with a whole bunch of badly done add-ons that made me nervous, and a '00 with the entire left-side fairings ripped off. I wanted a VFR or something comparable, and I wanted one I'd be able to get on and ride to and from work without too much work put into it; I put 100+ miles a week on my bike, and I really wasn't looking for a fixer-upper. Yes, I tried to get a lower price, but the seller knew he had a great and unique bike, and considering how well the sale went and how much the PO threw in, I was ok with paying what I did. Considering how many idiot squids there are running around New Orleans, and the number of wrecked bikes popping up in ads around here, I'd still say I did well.

"bikes are only worth as much as someones willing to pay for it" - As you say, its hard to find in your area, and you were dead set on the bike, so thats what ya paid for it. I bought a minty 94 vfr with 24k on it last week for much less, but then again, as you said, you wanted that bike and youre happy with it, thats gotta be worth something.

You also have peace of mind that the RR is fixed and ready to go! I dont. I havent even looked to see if mine "appears stock" so I'll be in the dark on that one. Congrats dude!
