What the hell does this hose connect to?

So cracked open my bike today after recently buying it to install a K&N air filter and found a hose dangling.  Check the Haynes manual and couldn't find it (I'm sure it's buried in there somewhere...) and was hoping someone could give me a quick answer.  It's a 1998. The hose has a white tip in the picture below - for some reason it uploaded sideways so tilt your head - I looked everywhere for something it could connect to with no luck:

The other end of the hose should be under the tank.

It is the fuel drain hose - there are a few holes around your tank filler neck where spilled gas goes and it drains into that hose and onto the ground.

Don't stress it is simply an fuel overflow line, for example if you overfill your tank it is the line the fuel run out from the above internal spout area. There should be another hose to connect that hose to (the line in pic just runs to bottom of bike & isn't connected to anything other end) from under tank, if no hose you will see the connection under tank so you will need to buy some hose to connect tank outlet to that nylon joiner on hose in pic. If you are careful & never overflow your tank then not needed but if you do without line fuel will drop onto top of hot motor & exhaust.

yea that hose comes disconnected very easily. i used a zip tie to keep mine together.

That's the fifth one of these this year!

Ha! I'm not the only one who's freaked out about that.

Yeah I figured it was something like that since the bike was running fine...I was just baffled that I looked all over the place including under the tank and there is nowhere this thing connects....

It connects to another open-ended black hose just like it.

Looks like you may be out of blinker fluid now...
