TT3D: Closer to the Edge Movie

Be careful, I can't remember if UK disks will play on US machines. Guys were buying DVDs by the bushel overseas just to find out that the US uses different formatting. My son is a movie nut-was an extra in the new Avengers movie and he can't find anything about a US release for Closer To The Edge.

There are ways around such things nowadays. Actually, I'm pretty sure that any PC should be able to read a Euro DVD without any extra functions/programs/ect. If not, I'm 100% sure I have software to get around it and turn it into US Region disk.

My Mac's pre-installed DVD software does not play out of region disks, it asked me once what region I was in and warned that it can't be changed again.

VLC will play anything!

some of the high end players over there have 2 slots to insert yer disc. one for US and the other for World.

Only problem with that is, most people don't want to watch a movie like this on a little old computer screen.

There are a handful of solid programs out there that will let you rip a dvd to your drive. Then you can burn it to whatever format your player needs. Or you can connect your computer to a video input on the TV. I've seen more TVs with a simple VGA input in the last few years. If not, there are low cost adaptors to change an output on your computer to HDMI if it doesn't have one already. The only thing that I know doesn't work is buying a streaming box like the WD TV Live and trying to play the disc over the network. Just doesn't have the coding or HP to play it smoothly.

Sounds like a lot of work to watch an hour of video that isn't blue ray

I am going to wait and see if it comes out in NTSC region 1 Blu-Ray which is the correct format for US disc players.

But it is still Blu-ray. If you have a blu-ray drive and the program that came loaded with the drive, you get blu-ray quality video. If you have to convert it to anything other than mt2s, then you do lose some of the quality, but 95% won't notice it.

Between a computer screen and not at all I think I'd take the screen :fing02:

You guys want me to ask Duke if they have any American play DVDs? Am sure its all blue this and that now..

DVD delivery is free worldwide from here, isle of man.

If any of you are really interested am sure i can sort orders.

Me too! But I don't know if and when it will happen. Maybe if we all yell loud enough they will hear us on the other side of the pond!!!

Looks as tho they are regional am afraid and will not normally play stateside.
He also tells me there is no planned release in the different format at yet.

Thems the facts.. If your lucky enough to be able to watch the UK DVDs then your on to a winner.


You could of course all pop over here to the Isle of man and watch my copy...

I could even rent out me VFR for a few laps... :tour:

ETA: guess i must have been lucky working security on the door of the Premier here back a few month ago... :-)

Item is set for shipment on the 28th. Expecting 6-8 days to ship. So around St. Nicks day should have a report on where the dvd and blu ray disks work.

Yes watching is simple if you like, or ride in the GP if your up to it...
Marshaling is another option if your after something to do...
I live by the grandstand.

Hope you find a way of formatting the disks..

Two things.

1) It looks like something that is worth my money and that I will support. BUT, can't really say too much against doing what you did because if they're not going to bother providing a way for you to enjoy the product, then screw 'em.

2) What kind of quality? Even taking blu-ray disks and ripping them to my HTPC and trying to keep everything as high quality as I can, the image is noticeably degraded compared to the original disk.

Actually, let me make that three. Is it as good as I/we are hoping?

It is a brilliant film. My only critic was that the journey only lasted an hour and a half.
I woke up 30 minutes ago and I'm still thinking of the TT.

The xvid was only ok, tad blocky when stretched.
The sound was encoded 5.1 so was alittle messed up on just headphones.

For me it was a preview, but I would certainly want the bluray - rip or otherwise.

Just been into town, Douglas.. its the launch day here locally for the dvd and blueray copies.

Later on today there will be a few of the local TT riders, Connor Cummins and Milky Quayle. (I suggest now officially most viewed and spectacular crashers at the TT on Utube) doing the bigger press launch, so i guess signing a few of the cases/boxes.

Might pop down again and grab a few photos to post up.. but prob best leave that to my mates who do that kind of thing round here anyway. I guess i should have taken my camera at the first local showing of the film during the racing this year when Guy Martin turned up along the red carpet on his push bike..

Again i asked about compatibility, but only type B or Europe officially avaliable right now unless you have the ability to convert.

I and the local shop assume they will sell out of all avaliable copies today.

Is not that expensive considering there was a £13 million endorsement from the isle of man government to the filming company to help make/ promote the island...

I just finished watching it and at times had to turn on the subtitles to understand what Guy was talking about. Excellent documentary although I don't think I need to know about Guy's wanking habits :laugh:
