Got a couple of co-workers who like to talk smack. One owns a ZX-14 and the other a Hayabusa, so you can easily figure out the rest. They like to talk about their "big boy" bikes and "getting respect" on the street. I am pretty sure neither of them have anything in the way of riding skills.
Recently myself and the VFR have become a target for their stupidity. My only response to them so far has been to invite them to go riding with me. Otherwise I don't pay them much attention. However I would love the opportunity to ride with them on a nice backroad just to shut them up.
So....any good retorts from the lot of you would be appreciated. If a really good one is posted I may use it. Otherwise I will just let them continue to run their mouths and show their ignorance. it's good comedy.
I'm a big fan of the riding a slow bike fast vs. fast bike slow arguement. Also, straight lines are boring and big bikes aren't any better than their nimbler (and smaller) counterparts when the road starts winding.
Humility is your guide! If given the chance quietly show them what separates the men from the boys, but just words will not do that. Props to you for taking the "high road" so far...
I have 1 BMW riders that I deal with. The "typical" BMW rider with the attitude of " I deserve respect" for what I ride. Which always makes me laugh. He tries to talk smack about my VFR/Honda or any bike that is not BMW. The following line was used after he declared 'verbal war" and I wanted to see how far he wanted to go. So I shot this line to him.
"I can ride my bike hard on a daily basis, long durations and put her thru her paces, and she constantly begs for more...... just like your wife does."
he laughed.... I won. After that.... its was a barrage of insults. it was fun.
the next time they brag.. just giggle.. when they look at you funny..
you say " just thinking of how long your bike is going last., "
i cant tell you how many blown up busa and and zx14 i have had to trash / rebuild.
i can tell you how many vfr motors i had to rebuild....ONE!
ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE!
just one!
why? because the owner wanted to try sleeves in the water jacket like the guys on the Vmax do..
How does this sound?:
Going fast in a straight line is easy. Takes no talent. Just about anyone with a little nerve can do it. And that is all Hy Butts Ses can do. While carving up corners takes, at a minimum, skill, talent, practice, and MOST OF ALL, intelligence. And just owning a Hy Butts Ses shows the lack of the latter. That may shut them up. (and that last part is why every member of this discussion group seems so smart - it is a pre-selected group).
I don't know how you can bash a Busa, man.. You should go ride one, for the money, a used Busa is one of the best values there is, they are awesome machines, and they do everything pretty damn well. And while they get a lot of flack for being big and heavy and lacking in handling, all that stems from the GSXR600/1000 crowd because their bikes are factory race replicas. The Hayabusa has got a 24 degree rake and just under 4" trail, they handle much better than you think if you got the cojones to throw them around. And they make excellent sport-tourers when setup properly.
That being said, a lot of their owners are A**holes, but that can't be helped, that comes with about every brand loyal group there is.. Always got a part of the crowd that is extremist and offensive. Its really sad to see people that take that stance, they are obviously insecure about something in their lives to have to pick on somebody with a slower bike. Like you said, take them out and outride them, I'm sure they won't have much to say after that. Eventually you'll run into them on the street anyway.
Well ..if you do go a ride with them, make sure the road favours you.
No long straights ..well..unless it's got crests and bumps (and you know them)
Nothing worse than keeping ahead of the big boys ,only for them to fly by
On the straights.
once thevye past'd ,you've lost the argument.
I can quite easily scare my mate (busa) on the twisties, cos he's riding out
His comfort zone to keep up
Big flat Straights however.....i'm f**ked
If you are not interested in their bla bla just ask them so talk to someone who actually give a sh^t for what they think....... or just press"i" for ignore...
Offer them to switch bikes for a short ride and peacefull come together of minds, sing cumba ya my Lord at the watercooler afterwards...
Now if you are just looking for funny replies to give, am sure we can come up with a few comments on these Hiyabastards here :tour:
Horses for courses and all that.... for me if it has 2 wheels, I will ride it (maybe only once but still)

I've had a few people who don't understand why a VFR.
Motorcycle riders can sometimes be from different planets in terms of their perception of what riding fun is.
No sense in trying to explain. Don't waste your time even - They won't understand.
Just end it at "To each is own". Otherwise it will turn into a dick measuring contest.

Yes and it could end badly. Either you measure sticks during track days, or you just ignore them and enjoy your vfr. We all know you are riding the better bike! :)
One time Mr. "I wear a Rolex and ride the world fastest bike" at work was making fun of my "Ducati" and when I corrected him he flipped off with "whatever" and ran on some more about his 'skill' on his Busa. When he was done running off at the mouth I asked; "So when your dead can I have your watch?" Everybody laughed but him.

Just agree with them about how super-badass their bikes are and how they would smoke you in a drag race. Whatevah...
How many miles did you ride last weekend? How much did your N2O cost you? So how long is your swing arm? Who does your chrome work? So how did you lower the bike so much? How often do you go to your chiropractor? Is your helmet on your bike more than your head? Maybe when they grow up they can buy a Boss Hoss!

Pirates, WING RIDERS a.k.a. the elderly, NINJA, GSXR, R1, CBR a.k.a young punks.. **** WARNING **** BMW and DUCATI riders are better than us so approach at your own risk.
The last 'busa guy I took out with my fav riding buddy along too in the twists ate it. He wasnt injured, but the 'busa was wadded. (Jeez, I'm burning the twists on a 4th gen and loosing the guy) So... damn it, your not gonna ride away and leave him to fend the mess for himself..... - Yea, we backtracked and helped the guy get a truck and stuff.
- - Now, I just say all bikes are cool, you have your style and I have mine.
-- And then also learned a lesson that you should go out riding with like minded riders only.
I once knew someone in a similar situation. Although I wouldn't advise you follow his example, his reply to them was: If I want your lip, I'll jiggle my zipper.
I Wonder how many ZX-14 or Busa owners get over a Hundred Thousand Miles on them? I've ridden neither machine but I am three for three on VFR's reaching 100k plus. Not one of them didnt run pretty well when sold or traded. I would think your coworkers would show a common support for the joy of riding not belittle your choice in hardware. I'm sure many of us have friends or relatives who ride a differant brand of machine or even have some in their stable. You my friend have nothing to prove to anyone. Just laugh it off. And remind yourself on the way home, on your favorite road, When you hear that VFR's sweet exhaust song in your ears, smile on your face.... Some people just don't get it.... But some do....
We have a couple of these clowns at our work, they're related and one rides a 'busa and the other a GSXR-1000. Tires are square and the strips are almost thicker than the worn centers but they like to talk their game about how much better Suzuki's are and grin to each other when I pull in or out of our parking area. I shrugged it off for the majority of the spring and summer until one day fate smiled on me. Pulling back in to work after lunch I noticed the GSXR clown pushing his bike through the parking lot with the 'busa guy running back from the parking area to help him. I rolled up to him, flipped the visor open and asked if he was ok. "Out of gas", was his reply. I simply responded with "wish I could help, but this only runs on Honda gas and I'm sure it wouldn't work in your Suzuki, but you're welcome to try it." Parked and went back to work...didn't see either bike in the lot the rest of the season.
This kind of stuff always comes back to insecurities. Sounds like they have a lot of them. On the other hand, people that are comfortable with who they are and what they are about don't care what other people ride, etc. etc., they just ride.
The group of people I ride with all have a faster bike except one. At the end of the day though they start asking to try mine out because their hands, knees, and butts can't take it any more.
On a side note: I actually like the ZX 14, reminds me of the face of a squid from Matrix. Haven't ridden one for more than 30 minutes though so I'll save judgment for latter.
